Giro Contour RS 2021-2022 Snowboard Goggles Review

Tested and selected for our top 100 snowboard products of the year: the Giro Contour RS

  • Price: £120 / €150 / $170
  • Lens: Toric
  • System: Magnetic

Why we chose the Giro Contour RS Snowboard Goggles:
Everything we loved about last season’s debut from Giro, but repackaged in a women’s friendly size.

The all-new Contour RS is stacked with the same crisp clarity, plush comfort, world-class performance and stylish design as Giro’s original Contour goggle, but with a more refined silhouette that’s best suited to women (or men with a smaller-than-average face).

At first glance, you’d be forgiven for assuming these goggles don’t offer quite the same field of view as some of the bug-eyed, fighter-pilot-esque competition. Don’t be fooled, though – peripheral vision is dictated primarily by the profile of the frame, rather than the shape of the lens, and the Contour RS combines a sleek, frameless design with Giro’s state-of-the-art Expansion View Technology+. With a semi-spherical lens (sometimes known as toric), these goggles have a much lower profile that sits closer to the face. The vertical axis of the lens appears very shallow, but the curve along the horizontal axis is what enables that wider field of view, without any distortion in the corner.

How much you can see is one thing, how well you can see it is another. Working in collaboration with Zeiss Optics, the VIVID lens is able to manipulate the light waves which pass through the lens – increasing the contrasting blue lights, and eliminating harmful UV. On top of that, the Contour RS comes with two interchangeable lenses, one for sunny bluebird days and another for flat light conditions. Swapping them out is super easy thanks to Giro’s quick-change magnetic-assisted system. It takes literally seconds, and you don’t have to worry about covering your lens in grubby fingerprints.

It’s also worth noting the fact this product seamlessly links up with all Giro helmets – of which there is no shortage of great options for all manner of riders. It works exceptionally well in terms of fit and functionality, providing a seamless fit between the two (i.e. no punter gap), and is definitely worth considering if you’re on the hunt for a new lid this season.

A decent amount of cushioning and ample ventilation with the EVAK system guarantees all-day riding comfort and clarity. What we really love about these goggles, though, is just how many strap options there are to choose from. A mixture of minimal, old school, funky and downright fabulous designs will provide everyone out there with a look they’re stoked on.

With riders like Maddie Mastro and Sebbe de Buck heading up Giro’s roster, the Contour RS goggles have all the style, quality and technical performance to match their world class team.
