YES. Snowboards | 2021-22 Gear Preview

As part of our new Envision Series, we take a first look at YES. Snowboard's new season product line

Welcome to our new Envision Series where we’ll be bringing you the latest gear previews, with some of the most exciting new snowboard, boot, binding, outerwear and goggle products to drop for winter 2021-22. In this Envision episode, we’re taking a look at next year’s lineup from YES. Snowboards.

With everything that’s going on in the world at the moment, the snowboard season is shaping up a little differently this year. Instead of traveling to trade shows and getting out to the mountains, testing new gear and meeting up with brands, we’ve launched our new Envision Series to bring you some sneak peeks for next year.

“Each of the three owners got to take things right back to the drawing board and design their dream snowboard”

YES. Snowboards have been making waves in the industry for over a decade. Set up by legendary snowboarders Romain de Marchi, JP Solberg and DCP, YES. are still proudly rider owned and operated. This year, each of the three owners got to take things right back to the drawing board and design their dream snowboard, culminating in the nostalgia fuelled YES. Uninc Line. The boards dropped for a super limited early release this season but will be hitting shelves properly for winter 2021/22 so if you didn’t manage to get your hands on one already, hold tight.

Check out our full gear preview below, as well as our interview with David Pitschi, YES. Brand Manager

What’s your hero story going forward into the 2021/22 season?
YES. the : Basic UnInc. RDM. Blast from the Past.

Romain De Marchi wanted to pay tribute to the board that he rode while filming with Absinthe at the Chad’s Gap session for his legendary part in POP. He used the same artist who designed that UnInc, Kalonji, to capture the same style of art with a modern theme.

“We added some Slamback inserts towards the tail to make it the ultimate go anywhere, shred anything board”

The Basic UnInc. RDM is a supercharged Basic with all the upgrades you want to have in a classic snowboard package. It’s full camber with a sintered base and we added some Slamback inserts towards the tail to make it the ultimate go anywhere, shred anything board.

Kalonji was a young artist when Romain made his UnInc. Board with him 15 years ago. He now is a world renowned artist who has publications around the world. It was an honor for us to be able to work with him on the revival of his iconic graphic.

The 2021-2022 YES. Basic Uninc RDM Snowboard

YES. the: Hybrid UnInc DCP. Pura Vida.

David Carrier Porcheron (DCP) is greatly influenced by surfing, water culture and the exotic wildlife of the Costa Rican coast. He wanted his board to remind him of his second love every time he straps in. He chose the Hybrid because of its progressive shape and popularity amongst YES. fans.

It has the short and fat surface-planing effect of the 420 and employs the Tapered UnderBite outline originally unveiled on the PYL. It’s floaty, it’s manoeuvrable with confident edge hold and it snaps out of turns with a ton of power. It’s DCP’s new favorite board.

“The board is based on the Pro20 chassis which found so many converts last year”

YES. the: 420 UnInc. JPS. They killed the last Unicorn.

JP Solberg was devastated to learn that the last white rhinoceros had been killed and that now that race was extinct. He wanted a strong message to be said about the extinction of species, and chose the 420 as the canvas for his protest. The board is based on the Pro20 chassis which found so many converts last year.

The more aggressive flex pattern and snap from the Poplar + Paulwnia core, coupled with a high-speed sintered true base and 4mm of camber underfoot brought the shape from a pow-specific quiver board to an immensely fun do-it-all mountain board.

The 2021-2022 YES. 420 Uninc JPS Snowboard

What product(s) are you personally most stoked on? (What will you be riding next season?)
To be honest it’s hard to choose, I really love the way the Basic Uninc RDM rides, the camber and stiffer flex put on the basic makes it a really fun and poppy board for everyday riding but on powder days there is no comparison with the 420 UnInc. JPS that board is unsinkable in powder and turns on a dime in the forest. If I had to choose only one it would be the Basic UnInc. RDM because there are more resort riding days in my life at this point and I am a fan of Kalonji.

What new tech and materials can we look forward to seeing for 2021/22?
We have added a XPIC 202 on the tail of the Hybrid to give it more stiffness so if you’re way setback and land cliff drops the tail will be an ally to maintain you up and not let you fall into the backseat.

“The versatility of the MidBite profile makes this board the perfect board for riders that want stability and response”

Have you made any specific changes or leaps within your women’s range?
We have built a specific woman’s performance park board It was developed by Juliette Pelchat for women who charge and want a board that performs to the best of their ability.

Juliette rides the 149. The versatility of the MidBite profile makes this board the perfect board for riders that want stability and response when they ride. The art was made by Crystal Legoffe a Whistler local that also rides YES. boards. She worked closely with Juliette while building this graphic.

“We have a space theme connected to the 420 powder hull that is all about floating on air”

Any cool artist collabs in the pipeline?
Our powder specific line was designed by Mark Kowalchuk, he built a triptic linking the 20/20, the 420PH and the Hybrid together. All 3 boards are linked by a portal and the 20/20 being the spaceage powder freestyle board we have a space theme connected to the 420 powder hull that is all about floating on air so it’s a mechanical bird that is connected with the Hybrid that is more on the ground in the forest, it opens the path to the cosmos and enlightenment.

For the Dicey we collaborated with Justin Luehr who is an Oregonian artist and also a snowboarder.

The 2021-2022 YES. Hyrbid Uninc DCP Snowboard

For the Greats UnInc we collaborated with Alex Fowkes who has made a few years of the greats and is a Whistler rider. The theme this year: Save the Humans (we first wanted to call it the human virus but that was before there actually was a virus) It covers the plague that human activity is to the planet the themes are different per board size:

149 (new size) is the extraction of fossil fuels
151 is the impact of consumerism
154 is animal cruelty
156 is Deforestation
159 is Overfishing

“We really wanted to reconnect with the glory days of snowboarding”

And for the PYL we worked with a Pyreneean rider that is a renowned storyboarder.

Is there an overall theme / inspiration driving your 21/22 line?
We really wanted to reconnect with the glory days of snowboarding when board graphics art were important to the rider and where boards had also an artistic story alongside the technology story. We connected with artist that where relevant then and artist that are the future now.

Have any team riders been involved in the R&D process? Where have you been putting these new/improved models to the test?
Pretty much all our riders are involved in R&D at different levels but we really used Juliette Pelchat this year to make the woman’s board and off course Romain, JPS and DCP for their boards.

Do you have any new sustainability stories for next season? Has any of your production moved to become more sustainable?
Our factory is 100% solar powered, we do the most we can to be sustainable and there are efforts in every areas of the process from the factory being solar powered to the lifetime warranty, all our decisions have are sustainably motivated.
