Why We Chose The Rome Guild: They’re great for a huge range of riders and pretty cheap to boot (pun intended).

Mostly unchanged for the 2023 season, but with a few key upgrades to really cement it as a Whitelines favourite, the Rome Guilds are a mellow, budget friendly all-mountain option, that put the onus on comfort and performance.

“The Guilds will suit any rider who has progressed past their first few days on the hill”

Rome had a huge overhaul of the whole line a few years back, upgrading and updating their range of bindings to include 3 women’s specific models, and the Guilds sit at the top, as their premium offering. The Guilds have a middle of the road flex, sitting in that Goldilocks not too soft, not too stiff sweet spot. Enough juice to garner momentum and control when going edge to edge, but playful enough to lap the park.

Who Is The Rome Guild For?

The Guilds will suit any rider who has progressed past their first few days on the hill, they’re not über stiff bindings that will punish you for every wobble or mistake, they’re for party laps with your pals and turning the mountain into your personal playground.

Baseplate

Rome use two different platforms, Asym Wrap and Full Wrap as the body for the bindings. The Guild uses their recently redesigned Asym Wrap Platform, it has a smaller footprint than its counterpart and it offers more lateral play for pressing and buttering around. It’s the more playful option, for looser riding and surfy turns.

Rome are known for their adjustability, there are myriad options to dial in the fit and feel that you’re comfortable with. One of our favourites is the PivotMount, you’re able to personalise the position of this by moving it up or down, depending on whether you want more support or a looser, more tweakable ride.

Straps and Highbacks

Comfort is just about the most important thing when you’re out riding, and Rome are pretty serious contenders in this sector. Our testers reported plush feel throughout the day, and this is thanks in part to the strap configuration.

The ankle straps are Rome’s lightweight option, using inject EVA foam for a cushy feel. This spine sitting atop the strap keeps it snug across the bridge of your boot, with no hot spots of pressure. Up front you’ve got these ProGrip toe straps, these futuristic AuxTech straps use a series of geometric cutouts to expand across the toe box, locking in your boot for max response, with minimum bulk or discomfort.

Highback rotation is often overlooked, but can make a big difference to your riding. Aligning your highback with your heel edge gives a seamless fit and a more effective energy transfer when you’re riding. Add in the forward lean adjuster for precision and power through heelside turns and you’ll find your riding stepped up a notch.

Roundup

With new buckles and ladders for this season, the Guilds have once again stepped up a notch. You don’t have to bring your A-game every time you strap in, but they’ll be able to handle it when you do. The Guilds are packed with some of the best tech Rome has to offer. A hell of a good deal when you consider the price.

Pros:

  • They’re tricked out with new and improved buckles and ladders for smooth entry and exit
  • A really playful and versatile middle of the road flex

Cons:

  • Riders with larger feet will do better to look elsewhere

Trade Secrets

Matt Stillman – Marketing Manager / Team Manager, Rome SDS

“The Guild is built for riders who want a nimble yet tweakable binding for deep days or park laps on repeat. The secret to the sauce starts with our AsymWrap platform for surfy board feel, the adjustability of the PivotMount system and the industry leading AuxTech strap package to keep things locked in and pressure point free.

We think of the Guild as the classic binding that really complements and helps make any board ride to its full potential. It’s the perfect blend of a supportive and powerful highback, with playful board feel and locked-in hold only found in Rome bindings.”
