We’ll start from the ground up – the Skate Flex sole is about as trick-friendly as they come. It’s not particularly thick, so you get tons of board feel, but targeted shock-absorbing (including a hefty lug at the heel, courtesy of protection specialists Slytech) help you take big impacts in your stride. The Team Ltd version is also transparent, which has no bearing on performance but is nonetheless pretty cool.

Above that is a reflective Thermoblock layer that keeps the heat in, but the shell has enough ventilation to prevent your feet baking over the course of a long day. It offers a medium amount of give thanks to two separate flex zones at the ankle, as does the tongue. The result is enough support to go as big as you dare without feeling overly ‘locked-in’.

Finally we have the double Powerstrap closure system at the top, which is unique to the limited edition of the Team ID. It’s hardly a game-changer, but it does give you more control over how much support you have at the front (and that’s before you factor in the removable Flex Booster insert).

Liner

With the Deeluxe ID Ltd, you have a choice of two liners. The Stage 3 option is a safe pair of hands for your feet, with a comfy and breathable toe box at the front and heel harness at the back. It isn’t topping out on the tech front, but it complements the shell nicely; there’s no chance you’ll feel short-changed with this one.

If you’ve got a bit more cash, we can think of few better ways to spend it than upgrading the liner to the brand new Custom ThermoFit version. As the name suggests, a bit of heat-moulding treatment on the unique perforated foam will deliver next-level comfort whilst also preventing any overheating. Such lengths have been taken to keep your heel secure that it almost feels like a human rights violation. Free The Heel! (actually, don’t. It knows what it did…).

Do ‘team riders’ have the clout that they used to? Maybe not, but while we may not be in the UnInc or Forum 8 days anymore, there’s still much that a solid team can offer – not least from an R&D perspective. Deeluxe’s hired guns gave this one the thumbs-up, and it’s highly likely that you will too.

The standard Team ID is also a fine choice, and will be far easier to get your hands on, but for the option of the premium liner – not to mention the rad ice-themed aesthetic – the Ltd version earns its spot in the Whitelines 100.
