You can always rely on Patrick ‘Brusti’ Armbruster and the Absinthe boys to deliver a summer teaser that’ll get the hairs standing up on the back of your neck, and this year’s ‘NowHere’ offering is no different.
Traditional snowboard filmmakers like Absinthe are coming under increasing pressure from illegal downloads, declining DVD sales and competition from brand-directed movies (like Forum) – not to mention the sea of free low budget films doing the rounds on the internet thanks to the digital revolution. Is it still worth a sponsor paying tens of thousands of dollars to get their rider in the annual Absinthe or Standard movie?
Judging by the strength of this teaser, it just might be. ‘Nowhere’ is looking like a return to form for Absinthe, who’ve clearly got their hands on some lovely HD cameras and focused on shooting more bluebird, less greybird. It’s a technicolour feast.
More to the point, the riding looks mindboggling: giant urban gap jumps, Chad’s Gap revisited, insane AK and what looks a rodeo to rail slide. Is it enough to make folk part with their cash or perhaps, as they suggest at the end, ‘see it on the big screen first?’ Let us know what YOU think below.
