Best Women’s Snowboards 2017-2018

Our favourite female-specific snowboards of the year, as chosen by the Whitelines Team

UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 Best Women’s Snowboards here

In truth, snowboards aren’t split firmly along gender lines. What we often call men’s boards would be better described as unisex – if it’s the right size, shape and flex for you, then it doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman.

That being said, the majority of snowboard companies offer a range of boards designed for women, accounting for the fact that they’re usually smaller and lighter. It’s not a catch-all category, but it serves as the best starting point for any woman looking to get a new stick.

“You’ll find everything from a park-centric pro model classic to a brand new pow-chaser here”

Thankfully, much of the industry steers well clear of ‘shrink it and pink it’ these days; most brands ensure that all of a board’s characteristics are designed to best suit a female rider. They are also, on the whole, less likely to incorporate stereotypical ‘girl-board’ designs – and while you can still find them, model names like ‘Diva’ and ‘Princess’ are far less common these days, too…

You’ll find everything from a park-centric pro model classic to a brand new pow-chaser here, but they do all have one thing in common: the female members of our Test Team gave each one the thumbs up.

Bataleon She-W Women’s Snowboard 2017-2018

Klaudia Medlova prefers a softer flex to her park slayer, but the Bataleon She-W is no noodle.

Carbon stringers run from edge to edge for improved response, while the mellow longitudinal flex combined with Bataleon’s Triple Base Tech make buttering and pressing easier than ever.

If you like freestyle, you’ll love the She-W.

Burton Story Board Women’s Snowboard 2017-2018

Part of Burton’s freeride-friendly Family Tree line, the new Burton Story Board aims to take all the excellent features of the Flight Attendant, and apply a female-specific design.

The tapered shape and setback camber makes this thing float amazingly well in the powder, but the “Balanced Freeride Geometry’ means that commion-or-garden piste riding is way more fun than you’d expect.

Jones Air Heart Women’s Snowboard 2017-2018

This directional twin model from Jones is perfect for taking to the whole mountain.

The camber helps you get it in the air whenever possible (hence the name), as well as hold a strong edge on the groomers.

A ‘spoon’ nose makes simply flowing from edge to edge an experience in itself, and as it’s a Jones you know it’s fun in the powder too.

Roxy Torah Bright Women’s Snowboard 2017-2018

As you might expect from Torah’s pro model, this one is ideal for high-end freestyle. If you’re proficient in the park and the pipe, you can’t go wrong with this.

Magne-traction edges deliver increased edge hold, while the combo profile really comes in to its own in the powder. As a result, this one isn’t just for park rats.

Salomon Rumble Fish Women’s Snowboard 2017-2018

The Rumble Fish is the souped-up version of the ever-popular Gypsy, and has proved to be a hit with more confident female riders.

The relative stiffness is ideal for powerful riding, but thanks to the true twin shape the Rumble Fish is capable of so much more than charging.

Whether it’s park or pow, you can really go to town on the terrain with this board.
