Who Is The Weston Riva For?

Ladies who refuse to compromise on the quality of their snowboard gear, but aren’t looking to break the bank. Riding steep lines and blasting technical terrain is your bread and butter, but you won’t turn your nose up at charging on piste when the snow isn’t great.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

At first glance you might think the Weston Riva is pretty similar to the Rise. In fairness, they do share a few features in common, but when you delve into it, they’re different beasts altogether. The Riva is a more advanced, stiffer option for aggressive riders who want to ride steeper and deeper terrain.

The profiles of the two are similar, to a point, but the Riva takes on a more directional form of Camrock with the rocker in the tail shorter than that in the nose. This feeds into the narrative that the Riva is built for deeper snow, and for charging nose first.

Where the Riva really starts to pull away from the Rise is in its use of a tapered outline. This narrowing of the board from nose to tail reduces surface area in the rear of the snowboard to help it sink down into the snow and in turn, keep the nose up and out. It also comes into play to help with manoeuvrability, the narrower tail is able to whip round between trees or slash through turns.

Construction and Materials

Helping to back up the lengthy camber through the body of the board are the two tip to tail carbon stringers. These run the full length of the board, boosting pop, aiding with aggressive riding (especially on hardpack), and helping to absorb unwanted vibrations.

The core of the Riva is also more advanced than that of the Rise, combining poplar and paulownia with bamboo for a super lively and lightweight feel. This is laid between reactive triax fibreglass to give ultra-quick response when you’re riding hard and fast, which you will be when you factor in the rapid sintered base.

“The Weston Riva is a dominating force on the piste and in the powder, quick as hell and powerful underfoot”

Roundup

The Weston Riva is a dominating force on the piste and in the powder, quick as hell and powerful underfoot. As such it takes a more experienced rider to handle it, but for those who have the sauce, this is a snowboard that’ll take you where you want to go.
