Watch Travis, Torstein and the Gimp at the Air & Style

http://mpora.com/videos/CGQlmelDs Here are some more of TTR’s little single-trick highlight videos from the Air & Style. These guys didn’t make it through to the final but stomped some pretty sick shit anyway. Check it out.

Here’s Elias Elhardt stomping a backside 10 late cork. It’s pretty similar to Marko Grilc’s winning trick, but Grilo’s was switch. Elias only learned this beast recently, and he’s done rather well with it at several contests. It bagged him the crossover title at Freestyle.Berlin, and the first place and best trick prizes at the Horsefeathers Pleasure Jam.

One of the highlights of this year’s Air & Style was seeing the Gimp (aka Stefan Gimpl), who won the contest a record-breaking three times back in the day, come out of semi-retirement to stand in for an injured Pat Moore. In fact, Stefan Gimpl has been entering a few contests recently and doing rather well in the FIS events. He won the big air at the London Freeze Festival and has taken two titles since with flat-spin frontside 1080s like this one. This trick didn’t quite cut it against the double-corks at the Air & Style, and Stefan went out in the first round. But the Gimp had a good run out in front of his home crowd, and that’s always good to see.

Norwegian style-master Torstein Horgmo stomped this sick backside 10 to make it through to the second round of the contest. He had a nasty bout of flu just before the contest, and looked sick as a dog on the practice day (as these photos from the draw show) but told us he’d have to man up and ride anyway. Which he did in some style. Yeah it’s a flat spin, but look how long he holds that grab for, and check out how clean the landing is. That’s why this boy always scores highly.

Local hero Werner Stock knocked out square-jawed jock Chas Guldemond with this sick front 12. He later crashed quite nastily into an advertising hoarding in the second round, and although he kept riding, he couldn’t quite stick this as cleanly. But this is a great looking trick.

Travis whipped out his version of the double cork for the crowd. This again is a proper full-on double corked spin, like Andreas Wiig’s here, which gets the backflips in good and early. What I love about Travis is the way he seems to have just decided to flip like this on his way down the run-in – this looks totally natural and improvised. Check out the way he nearly extends his body to get that laid-out steeze on the second backflip before spotting the ground and deciding the better of it. And he has no right to land this – he overcooks the spin (it’s nearly a 12!) and lands sideways for God’s sake! But that’s what makes him Travis.

Uber-talented young Belgian Seppe Smits won the Rookie contest with this text-book backside 12. For a kid who comes from a land with no mountains he’s not bad eh?
