Volcom x Kitzsteinhorn Banked Slalom

Another delve into the beauty of banked slalom

The winter season is slowly winding down across the Northern Hemisphere, the snow’s started to melt, the birds are chirping merrily and snowboarders everywhere are hurtling down banked slaloms at the speed of light.

From 26th to 28th April Volcom hosted their 6th annual Banked Slalom in Kitzsteinhorn, and it was a  weekend that played host to a few wild parties and a bunch of downhill demons. We’ve often spoken of the unadulterated beauty of banked slalom as a discipline, and this years offering from Volcom was no different.

150 riders turned up to put their skills to the test and try and prove they’ve got the cojones to go toe to toe with the fastest riders out there. The pool was whittled down to the 50 fastest people who went through to the main event on Saturday and got the chance to really put the pedal to the metal.

The riders spent the day going full gas down the perfectly shaped course, and vying for the title of champion. The hits and hips towards the end of the course became a freestyle zone with triple cork boss Torgeir Bergrem going full send and shooting for the moon.

In the Pro Men category the winner was…you guessed it- Terje ‘King of the Hill’ Haakonsen stormed to victory yet again, is there anything this guy can’t do? He beat out fellow Norwegian speed machine Torgeir by a full 2 seconds.

What would a banked slalom be without and end of season rager to accompany it? Saturday night was party time in the castle at Burg Kaprun, with live music and free flowing beer. Volcom do many things well, and throwing a party is definitely one of them.

Another season has gone by, another banked slalom has been completed, another trophy in Terje’s cabinet. For full results and gallery head over to the Volcom website!
