With so much snowboarding talent coming out of Scandi-land, you’d expect our friends in the north to also know a thing or two about board-building. That’s where Vimana come in. A young brand (this is only their third winter), it’s one that nevertheless is turning plenty of heads, as well as supporting some of the all-time greats (more on which later).

“Carbon and Kevlar both compliment the all-poplar core, so you get stability at speed as well as extra height on take-off”

The Vimana Clone is their most serious stick; a stiff, directional weapon for high speeds and higher heart rates. It’s been designed to deliver insane edge hold, with a combination of classic camber bend and aggressive sidecut. Thanks to the sintered base, it’ll fairly whip along if you let it.

Carbon and Kevlar both compliment the all-poplar core, so you get stability at speed as well as extra height on take-off. It’ll take some effort to get the most out of it, but ride it properly and your efforts, whether in the powder or on the groomers, will be rewarded in spades.

The three different sizes have designs inspired by three of the legends on Vimana’s pro team: Michi Albin, Fredi Austbo and Markku Koski. If you want to tip the cap to a legend whilst pushing your own riding, the Vimana Clone is the answer.

Tester’s Verdict

Sam Oetikeronboardmag.com

“The Vimana Clone was one of those snowboards that felt just right from the very first few turns. Anyone who knows my snow-sliding preferences will tell you that I’m a fan of traditional camber, and the Clone delivers an insane amount of pop and responsiveness in a sleek, directional package.

“I would best describe it as a high-end, all-mountain board that loves to be in the air”

I tested the 153 Austbo signature length board, which was a good fit for me. This Clone is definitely a charger, is lightning fast edge-to-edge, and has a super-smooth flex throughout. I would best describe it as a high-end, all-mountain board that loves to be in the air. Big jumps, sidehits, and backcountry are all on the menu with this one.

I wouldn’t hesitate to take it into the pipe either, which says a lot about how stable the Clone feels to ride. Highly recommended for guys who want to rip everything with a freestyle focus.”
