An all-mountain boot in theory should be able to do it all. The clues kinda in the name there, it needs to be playful enough to rip through the park but stiff enough to blast it on piste. Soft enough for some buttery fun, but responsive enough to dip off the side of the slope and thread through the trees. Many boots claim to be able to do it all, but one that we are genuinely impressed with is the Vans Invado Pro.

Who Is The Vans Invado Pro For?

The scope for these boots is massive, possibly not a complete beginner but anyone who doesn’t like to pigeon hole their riding who has at least a few days under their belt on the slopes will like what they find here.

Shell & Outsole

Vans shoes are iconic, and the Invado Pro channels their signature aesthetic but delivers it with a snowboard twist. You’ve got Vans’ signature waffle sole with their special lug pattern for grip on ice and snow, with a layer of cushioning to absorb vibrations from riding at speed or big landings in the park. The sole itself is designed to improve board feel by varying the thickness with specially designed metatarsal grooves.

In keeping with the classic look, the Invado Pro’s run with (not so) traditional laces. On the surface they do exactly the job of a standard lace, which in our humble opinion is arguably the best method of tightening boots, but with a little extra spice from the side boa which tightens over the top of the foot to avoid heel lift.

“The Pro version understandably takes advantage of Vans’ higher tech ingredients, so naturally there’s a slight price difference between the two”

Liner

As an upgrade to the OG Invado, the Pro version understandably takes advantage of Vans’ higher tech ingredients, so naturally there’s a slight price difference between the two. They use Vans’ V2 Popcush Footbed; this sits underfoot, supporting the arch and alleviating foot fatigue over long periods of time.

These work with the V2 Ultracush Liner, which uses merino wool to wick moisture away from the skin, is fully heat mouldable and uses an X Cage to further lock in the heel. Vans also use a thermal retention liner in all their boots, trapping in the heat and blocking out the cold.

The Invado Pro’s use a power strap around the calf, to keep the tongue flush to the boot to reduce the risk of shin bang and to allow you to slightly alter the flex depending on how tight you have it. For fun days lapping the park, keep your laces slightly looser and forget the strap, for days when you’re pushing it and need the extra response, get everything nice and tight.

Roundup

Overall, these are a pair of boots that’ll do a bit of everything. Like anything that’s made to be versatile, they’ll be beaten by something super specific, but if you’re looking for one pair of boots to do it all then roll up.
