Vans Introspect is in Austria this week – home of that man Wolfgang ‘Wolle’ Nyvelt – powder surfer and binding free board designer. And lucky us, we get a proper look inside where his much-coveted hand-shaped boards are built, as well as seeing them put in to practice as only Wolle can.
It might sound a bit hokey to some of you kids, but it’s hard to argue with someone so in-tune with the roots of snowboarding.
A big fan of the history and theory behind the pleasure of snowboarding – Wolle also explains how he values the importance of understanding where snowboarding has come from – and the link that it provides between natural and man made objects, working in harmony.
It might sound a bit hokey to some of you kids, but it’s hard to argue with someone so in-tune with the roots of snowboarding; and there’s a definite aesthetic beauty to the whole process Wolle goes through here, from the curves of the ASMO wood to the mastery he shows of his craft in big mountain hits. Lovely stuff.
