Happy 17th birthday to the OG Union binding, the Force. Time to stop drinking cider on a park bench and graduate into sneaking into pubs. One of, if not the, most iconic snowboard binding out there. You’ve heard of a quiver killer snowboard, well this is a quiver killer binding, super versatile and just about as all-mountain as it gets.

Who Is The Union Force For?

Despite being able to bring some pretty high performance to the table, the barrier to entry for the Force is relatively low, beginner, intermediate or pro, you’ll find something to like here.

Baseplate

Heelcups are often overlooked, but easily one of the most important parts of your bindings, they’re the glue that holds everything together and the stronger your heelcup, the more response you’re gonna be able to garner going edge to edge. Union’s are famously bombproof and are made out of extruded aluminium and carry a whopping lifetime guarantee.

Eva foam sandwiches the baseplate, reducing chatter and vibrations underneath and directly underfoot they act as a bit of cushioning for big landings and some added comfort. Another lifetime guarantee slapped on the baseplates, because that’s just how sure Union are.

Straps and Highbacks

The Force sees some upgrades for 2021/22 in the form on its straps, now rocking Exoframe 4.0 ankle straps and TS 2.0 Rhombus on the toes. Both lightweight options that eschew the traditional super plush padding for a honeycomb-esque design that moulds round your boot and locks in. This alleviates pressure, especially over the instep and they’re both fully size adjustable.

The mid-stiff highback uses Duraflex ST, which includes more glass than the standard version for a greater response to weight ratio. It’s specifically deisgned to function in low temperatures and features an easy to use FLAD if cranking down forward lean is your thing.

Roundup

Like any all-mountain snowboard, a binding like the Force will get beaten out by something more specific in certain circumstances, but for one binding that does every pretty well, at a really reasonable price then the Force’s are a workhorse you can saddle up any day of the season.
