Let’s be real, Travis Rice could put his name to sealed jars of farts and we’d all be queuing up to get them, but at the end of the day has he ever let us down? The Union Falcor is Travis’ go-to binding for his resort and backcountry exploits. They sit at the junction of freeride and freestyle, enough juice to really push on those ball shrinking runs, but enough play to bone out a method of a cliff drop.

Who Is The Union Falcor For?

No one’s saying you have to be Travis Rice to ride these, that would be the worst marketing ever, but you’ve got to be pretty experienced on a snowboard to make the most of them. If you’ve ever seen his riding style you know the kind of thing they’re best at- artful freestyle meets instant response.

Baseplate

Lightweight is the key word here, all components of the Falcor’s have been stripped back to leave you just enough support without any hefty weight added on. The baseplates still have a fairly middle of the road flex to allow for that playful freestyle to shine through, but the bushing underneath are 20% lighter than standard to really claw back those grams.

They sit with a 3 degree cant, to allow your boots to sit in at a slight angle. This is a more natural way to ride, allowing your ankles, knees and hips to align better, which in turn means you can ride harder and faster for longer.

Straps and Highbacks

The straps and highbacks are where we’re seeing the real innovation for 2021/22, all have been updated to keep up with Travis’ growing needs as a rider.

The forged carbon spine has been made thicker and more durable, to allow more response to be pushed between you and your highback whilst still keeping the weight to an absolute minimum. It’s material that’s exclusive to Union and exceeds the strength requirements on injected plastic tenfold.

Like the triax glass that sandwiches your snowboards core, the ankle straps on the Falcor’s sit across three planes to ensure they’re reactive in an instant. The toe straps might look basic, but they use the strongest ratchets to date and include a shorter buckle base.

Roundup

Union’s buzzword has always been ‘Stronger’ and true to form they’ve knocked it out of the park again with Mr Rice’s signature binder. You’re not gonna strap in and magically ride like Travis, but rest assured in the knowledge that if you did start riding like him, the Falcor’s could handle it.
