Why we chose the Union Atlas Snowboard Bindings: In Greek mythology, Atlas was a titan condemned to hold up the celestial heavens for eternity, in snowboarding the Atlas holds the rest of the industry to a new standard.
Union’s buzzword has always been ‘stronger’, but this season the Atlas is on a whole other level. This is the Atlas you know and love, but it’s come back from summer break with a serious steroid addiction and new Herculean physique. The binder of choice for both Arthur Longo and Kazu Kokubo, the Atlas’ are your big mountain ballbusters.
As the old adage goes, ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’, but perpetual evolution is an intrinsic human trait, and Union embody this more than any brand we’ve seen. They’ve pushed binding innovation further than just about anyone over the last 16 years, like hungry sharks they’re constantly moving forward. Forever experimenting, designing and rigorously testing their wares.

The Atlas has a whole bunch of upgrades for 2020/21, but possibly the biggest talking point is the new Stage 7 Baseplate. A whopping 270j of energy is purportedly needed to shatter it. For reference, that’s roughly the same amount of energy it would take to raise a 1lb weight 200 feet in the air. When they say bombproof, they mean it. As such, Union put their money where their mouth is and offer a lifetime warranty on the baseplate and heelcup.
