SUNŌKERU | KORUA Goes Deep In Japan

The latest film from KORUA Shapes heads into Hokkaido's powder fields

Dig out your speedos, the KORUA crew’s gone snorkelling. The red and white pile-drivers made the pilgrimage to the powder mecca of Hokkaido for their latest film, Sunōkeru. The result is straight-up freeriding filth.

Every crack, crease and crevasse gets stuffed to the gunwales with freshies in their short feature from last season. Seasoned veterans Nicholas Wolken and Atsufumu Mizuno were joined by the team’s latest recruit, Spencer O’Brien, and young gun, Lars Popp to ride some of the deepest conditions you’ll ever see.

“Every crack, crease and crevasse gets stuffed to the gunwales with freshies in their short feature from last season”

We’ve been massive fans of the Swiss brand’s Yearning for Turning series for years which put carving firmly back on the map.  So much so that we even awarded the Pencil as the best women’s carving snowboard for 2019/20. Sunōkeru shows off the other side of the fleets’ performance – riding in the deep. And ridiculously deep at that.

That’s not a massive surprise, given the title:

Sunōkeru

Noun

‘A short, curved, hard rubber tube through which a snowboarder can breathe during deep powder turns.’

No kidding. You’ll probably end up with a short, curved, hard tube of your own after watching the opening 30 seconds.
