“This is proper brain meets brawn stuff”

Who Is The Spark R&D Surge Pro For?

If you drew out a graph into quadrants, with “Lightweight” on the X-axis and “Responsiveness” on the Y-axis, The Surge Pro bindings would be on a separate sheet of paper. These are squarely aimed at splitboarders who want the lightest, toughest and most powerful bindings out there for demanding days in the backcountry.

Baseplate

Like it’s little sibling, the Surge binding, the Pro version features the same powerful baseplate. None of the cutouts that you find in the Arc models are present here, these ones are intended to create the most powerful and durable chassis in the series. But, of course, the Pro versions cut away at any excess grams where they can, and the 7075 aluminum heel loops aren’t only lighter, they’re stronger too.

Some pretty incredible weight savings have been made in the custom hardware department, too. You’d need the kind of digital scales that only Spark R&D and street level drug dealers are likely to have in their possession to verify this, but stainless steel screws have been replaced with aluminum components, and even the pins on the toe ramp have been hollowed.

Straps and Highbacks

The Surge highback is already stiffer than that found on the Arc, but the Surge Pro levels up once again with carbon infused highback to deliver increased edge to edge and torsional response, while simultaneously cutting down a significant chunk of the weight and, you guessed it, adding to their overall strength and durability.

The straps have an identical outline to the the Surge bindings, but the material of the straps, ladders and adjusters is replaced with Pebax plastic – that magical material that holds up under increased sub-zero temperatures and provides the kind of durability and lasting structure that will give you countless days (nay, seasons!) without any drop in performance.

“The Pro series splitboard bindings are unrivalled in pretty much every aspect, and the Surge Pro stands out in the line as the most powerful and performance driven of the lot”

Roundup

Make no mistake, the Arc and Surge bindings are already some of the lightest, toughest and most efficient pieces of splitboard equipment on the market and, truth be told, they will be more than sufficient for the vast majority of riders out there. But where’s the fun in that? Why not pull out all the stops? The Pro series splitboard bindings are unrivalled in pretty much every aspect, and the Surge Pro stands out in the line as the most powerful and performance driven of the lot.
