UPDATE: Check out our review of the Best 2018/2019 Snowboards here
If you’re here because you’re in the market for a new snowboard – congratulations! Without wanting to come across like the folk who pitch a tent in their trousers whenever they peel the plastic off a new iPhone, getting your hands on a brand new stick is bloody brilliant.
“Choosing a new snowboard is the most excited a lot of us will ever get without actually doing any snowboarding”
Tearing off the wrapper, mounting your bindings for the first time, and enjoying that new-board smell; choosing a new snowboard is the most excited a lot of us will ever get without actually doing any snowboarding…
While it can be a lot of fun, it’s also fraught with peril. Get a stick that’s not right for you, and you’ll be cursing yourself for ever letting that funky graphic/pro endorsement/catalogue waffle sway you into picking up something that’s not quite your speed. It’s easily avoidable though, provided you do a little homework.
Before even looking at what’s new in 2017/18, it’s a good idea to brush up on a few rules of thumb. Our video explainers can help in that regard, so if you’re still not sure then be sure to check out the following:

So what does the list of snowboards available in 2017/18 tell us? Among other things, it has dispelled any notion of the weird-shapes “trend”. With more available than ever, and their popularity showing no signs of abetting, it’s clear those things are here to stay.
It’s not all about the oddballs, though; conventional fare is in bountiful supply, and certain modern classics continue to truck on. All in all, there’s truly something for everyone – you just have to keep looking until you find it.
Spoilt for choice, we mobilised the Whitelines Test Team – now bigger and better than ever before – and hit up every event we could. All told we covered over 200 decks in our quest for the best (as well as several bindings and goggles too).
Every snowboard we feature in our gear guide is accompanied by a full, in-depth review from an experienced rider – and if you’re wondering which ones they thought were the very best, check out what made the cut for this year’s Whitelines 100.
Of course, it’s impossible to test everything on the market, but this list is definitely the best place to start. Get the kettle on, and start looking for your new steed.
