Why we chose the Slash ATV Snowboard: Truly, one of the best all-terrain snowboards to ever hit shelves.

ATV- the acronym speaks for itself. This is Gigi Rüf’s all-terrain vehicle, the self-professed and elusive quiver of one. The OG Slash board is celebrating its 10th anniversary, so Gigi has gifted us with a super limited re-issue ATV as well as the 21/22 iteration.

An aggressive charger that takes no prisoners, the ATV prides itself on its ability to be simultaneously reactive, responsive, and fully rad. A snowboard that dominates the hardpack as easily as it destroys the steep and deep, designed, shaped, and tested by the man himself, the ATV is Gigi’s first choice no matter the terrain or the conditions.

Who Is The Slash ATV For?

The mid-stiff flex, technical layup and aggressive camber mark this out as a snowboard that isn’t for amateurs. Those who ride with pace, pushing their limits and charging hard and fast will find a workhorse that’ll saddle up every day of the season in the ATV.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

Gigi Rüf oozes style, and if you saw his delectable front side 7 at Natural Selection you’ll know this isn’t just a board for balls to the wall charging or threading the needle technical descents, it has a foot firmly placed in the freestyle camp, too. With no taper to speak of and just 13mm of setback, riding switch is still very much on the cards, plus there’s no substitute for a traditional camber when it comes to maximum explosiveness and dynamic pop.

Other profiles will come and go, but camber will always rule the roost when it comes to power and precision. It’s not the most forgiving profile, hence the need for an experienced rider, but the pre-loaded tension and stability at speed it offers are second to none. The even distribution of pressure down the sidecut, paired with the Ultimate Traction counter radius bump adding an extra point to grip through the arc of your turns, gives the ATV the ability to rail a carve with the best of them. Icy faces or fresh corduroy, this is a board that’ll track like a missile.

All of Gigi’s fleet are easy to pick out of a crowd thanks to their distinctive Kick Stand nose and tail shape. The cutouts not only allow the board to stand up and balance, but they also reduce some of the overall swing weight, making it that little bit easier to try your own Gigi style FS7.

Construction and Materials

While the ATV can hold its own in the park, the internal layup makes it more suited to boosting the kicker line than loosey goosey buttering and jibbing. A tri-blend of soft and hard woods, sandwiched by reactive triax fibreglass offers a uber-responsive feel without becoming unwieldly at speed.

Sitting cross braced directly underfoot, Slash’s Buried Treasure is a mix of carbon, Kevlar and basalt to boost torsional respsonse, and send rider input directly to the contact points. With its mach 10 Sintered Base HD with Diamond Stone Finish you’ll be needing the instant response, as at ATV has one speed and one speed only: top.

Roundup

The 10-year anniversary edition ATV features a throwback graphic, a slightly different base and includes spruce in the core, otherwise the dimensions are identical.

The ATV doesn’t stand alone as a true all-mountain snowboard, but it’s certainly one of the best. If you’ve ridden one before you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about, if not- you’re in for a treat.

Trade Secrets

Harry Mitchell Thompson – Global Marketin Manager, Slash Snowboards

“It’s got a tip and tail stand so it doesn’t fall over when leant against a wall. It is Gigi’s go-to board – he was riding it when he did the infamous FS7 first run at Natural Selection. Gigi likes it because he can land switch easy peasy in the pow, and it is made in Europe!”
