Why we chose the Salomon Sleepwalker Grom Snowboard: The regular Sleepwalker is phenomenal value for money for park riders, and the grom version is packed with the same tech, value and forgiveness for learning new tricks. It’s a no brainer really. Support the youth!

It’s easy to get attached to snowboards, and we envision that should you choose to buy the Sleepwalker Grom you’ll invariably find a special place in your heart for it, especially once you start landing a whole bunch of new tricks for the first time on it. But looking beyond the stylish graphic and emotional value this is an amazingly well built tool for young snowboarders to use to aid their development in freestyle.

It features enough technical response to lock you into tricks you already know with style, but enough hard-wearing forgiveness that you can comfortably explore uncharted grounds in the freestyle world without worrying too much about the perils of failure.

Who Is The Salomon Sleepwalker Grom For?

If you’re a kid that wants to hone your craft in the park or if you’re a parent with a child that says they want to be just like Tommy Gesme when they grow up then the Sleepwalker Grom is the board to go for.

Built for progression and able to take the beating of learning new tricks without breaking the bank this is an instant family favourite.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

The Sleepwalker Grom wears it’s freestyle credentials on it’s sleeve with a reliable true twin shape and EQ Rad Sidecut that offers reliable grip via straight lines in the tip, tail and centre that are blended with a small radius near the bindings.

This all adds up to a super consistent board response regardless of whether you’re riding regular or switch into or out of features. Super important for anyone looking to add more rotations to their bag of tricks.

You’ll also find a fun and forgiving Rock Out Camber profile that has a stable flat section in the centre, some camber to push into for turns and ollies and rocker in the nose and tail for forgiveness. Add in the full detuned tip & tail as part of Salomons Bite Free Edge and you’ve got the perfect tool for learning new tricks without the ever-looming threat of edge catches if you don’t land them absolutely bolts first try (who does?).

Construction and Materials

Hidden inside the sleepwalker you’ll find a Popster core chock full of FSC certified aspen. The clever popster core thickens the wood in the area under the bindings to add a firmer, responsive feel underfoot. While thinner sections in the centre, tip & tail showcase the natural snap that wood provides to create a fun pop that’s pretty similar to your skateboard’s.Ideal for learning how to get yourself airborne.

Long lasting and tough as a boot this board is certified child friendly (not an official cert, sorry) as the extruded base will prove hard wearing on boxes or rails and should your jib hungry grom manage to take a bite out of it, then it should be easily repairable at your local shop.

Similarly, the Biaxial, low density fibreglass is employed in the boards inner workings to ensure the board retains it’s consistent, playful flex forever.

“This all adds up to a super consistent board response regardless of whether you’re riding regular or switch into or out of features”

Roundup

This is almost a no brainer for any youth that wants to develop their freestyle snowboarding. The sleepwalker grom is shaped to be reliable and responsive when you need it, but forgiving so that you can approach new tricks with excitement rather than white knuckled terror.

For parents that also means it might also be a slightly more rewarding option than other snowboards if your child is looking to start learning tricks as that forgiveness should encourage landings on their first tries rather than a punishing fall. It’s always easier to perfect something you’re already landing so this might help to raise your kids stoke and encourage progression rather than giving up after their first fall.

It’s also worth checking out the Oh Yeah Grom if you’re not a fan of the graphic on the Sleepwalker Grom It’s got all the same tech and shape but with a touch of purple power on the topsheet instead!
