UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 Salomon Rumble Fish here

An all-rounder aimed at more confident female riders, the Salomon Rumble Fish has what it takes to tame pow fields, park lines and groomers alike. Sometimes that’s got more to do with marketing spiel than reality, but this one is the real deal.

“Carbon rods run from the inserts to the extremities, giving you maximum spring at the lip of a jump”

The true twin shape is ripe for freestyle, as is the ‘Popster Booster’ construction that uses carbon to enhance the profile’s already-formidable ollie power. Carbon rods run from the inserts to the extremities, giving you a more rigid platform for getting maximum spring at the lip of a jump. That, combined with Salomon’s famously quick sintered base, means that the biggest kickers in the park are there for the taking.

There’s also a couple more rods at each end that link to the contact points of the Salomon Rumble Fish for better energy transfer. Meanwhile you’ve got nothing but regular wood core between the feet, so you can still get a nice torsional twist going. The result is a powerful, stable ride when you’re pinging down a fresh groomer, without losing the option to keep things a little more loosey-goosey at slower speeds.

Cork laid along the sidewalls help to soak up vibrations, whether from stomping landings or melting it over crud. It’s another feature of this board that you can appreciate wherever you take it, as is the core’s varying thickness which delivers a lively ride with zero surplus weight

“Even if you avoid the park, you’re still likely to get on famously with the Salomon Rumble Fish”

The profile features a subtle flat section of board between the feet, which changes to camber and then to rocker as you move out towards the nose and tail. This gives you the pop of camber plus the pressability and pow-friendliness of rocker sections – the best of both worlds, as you ought to find on any all-rounder worth its sat.

Rail riders will also like the pre-tuned edges that make a nasty hang-up less likely, but even if you avoid those – or even the park in general – you’re still likely to get on famously with the Salomon Rumble Fish. If you’re heading to the mountains for the whole winter and wish to travel light, this could be the solution.

Tester’s Verdict

Sarah Fishgypsysnowboarding.com

“The Salomon Rumble Fish is the souped-up bigger sister of the Gypsy. If you like that board but want something that has a stiffer nose and tail, then this is the whip for you.

“A bloody good all-rounder, and one that I never once wasn’t glad to be on”

I still find it an amazing all mountain freestyle board, and just because I said it was stiffer it ain’t no Custom X… It’s still hanging around the middle of the flexy scale.

I rode this board a lot last winter, and I absolutely loved it. It offers up maximum grip for carving, is still forgiving enough for rails, and gives you awesome control on jumps of varying size.

A bloody good all-rounder, and one that I never once wasn’t glad to be on.”

Trade Secrets

Nirvana Ortanez – Team Rider, Salomon

“Super responsive board that can handle any terrain and conditions: jumps, jibs, cliffs, anything!

I like riding it on days when you can still find some leftover fresh snow to slash in the morning, then take park laps in the afternoon.”

The Salomon Rumble Fish features pre-tuned edges, making you less likely to hang up on rails.
A cork inlay in the Rumble Fish's sidewall reduces vibration.
