Your first snowboard will likely wind up holding a very special place in your heart for the rest of your life. On paper the Salomon Pulse runs much the same as my beloved first snowboard but with a well thought out, forgiving, camber profile. And if you asked me what’s the one thing I wish I’d had when I learnt it would be a touch of camber rather than rocker.

The Salomon’s Pulse’s seems like a great tool to set you on your snowboarding journey free from any bad habits in early turn initiation and with a fun amount of pop to start exploring freestyle snowboarding.

“This is a perfect board for beginners or anyone looking for a forgiving, playful board at a low price point that they can use to explore a range of different terrain on”

Who Is The Salomon Pulse For?

This is a perfect board for beginners or anyone looking for a forgiving, playful board at a low price point that they can use to explore a range of different terrain on. The boards profile will make learning new tricks feel very comfortable and set you up well for progressing onto stiffer, more performance orientated boards further down the line in your snowboarding journey.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

A directional twin shape adds a little more bulk towards the nose but keeps your bodyweight centred over the middle for stability. This makes it a great shape for learning in a range of terrain as that slightly larger nose will help you float in your first forays into powder and provide a larger balance point for nose presses and butters in the park.

The flat-out-camber profile is one of the best choices for beginners. Sure a rocker board might be the most forgiving to initiate turns on, but it lacks pop and can cause bad habits in your riding that might come back to bite you further down the line. By starting with this camber under foot you’ll have something to push into when you turn and will find loading up your first ollies that little bit more rewarding.

The flatter sections from the bindings outwards help to keep things a little more forgiving and the de-tuned nose and tail edges will reduce the dreaded edge catches if you under commit to a turn.

A simple radial sidecut is the order of the day here so that you can test the waters riding switch and guarantee a consistent turn response.

The super soft flex will help to keep things playful underfoot as you learn to start butting and playing with your different turn techniques. And although this softer flex might get a bit squirrelly at high speed, that’s probably a sign that you’ve made the absolute most of this board and a progressing into more challenging terrain!

Construction and Materials

You’ll find a tough extruded base underneath the Pulse that will take plenty of knocks as you learn the ropes and, should you manage to guage a big old scratch or ding into it then it’s also more easily repaired than a sintered alternative.

ABS sidewalls help transfer your energy down the length of the boards edge for better response, dampen out unwanted chatter and help remove some of the sting on impact if you overcook things a little.

The playful flex on the Pulse will last forever thanks to the low density fibres that are added to the Aspen wood core that’s built for strength and durability.
