Why We Chose The Salomon No Drama: Playful and poppy in the park meets surprising performance outside of it.

It’s hard to believe the Salomon No Drama was released just a few short years ago considering the impact it’s had on the industry. As an unashamed park deck for advanced riders, it forced other brands to up their offering to try and compete. Taking many of its design cues from the iconic Salomon Huck Knife and updated for this season, the No Drama makes the most of a super poppy profile, a versatile outline and rugged construction to ensure you won’t be left wanting.

“Aggressive freestyle riders who want a snowboard that’ll handle everything from tech rail manoeuvres to boosting the pro line kickers”

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

As with most park-focussed decks, the No Drama uses a true twin outline. It’s the go-to for balance and switch takeoffs or landings, with Salomon blunting the tips to reduce the swing weight and bring down the board’s inertia to give you more control in the air and easier spins.

New for this season, Salomon has mellowed out the sidecut radius to offer you more control and deliver an all-terrain feel without compromising on park performance.

Camber has long been the defacto profile for a lively ride, and Salomon uses their Quad Camber for the No Drama. It’s great for aggressive riding, giving you a springboard for getting airborne, bags of natural pop and lets you crank up the speed whilst still maintaining stability. The nose and tail are rockered to give a little extra forgiveness and a bit of leeway for sketchy snow conditions, and Salomon have bevelled the edges 2 degrees in the tips to reduce the likelihood of hooking up on burrs.

Construction and Materials

Salomon wanted to make the best women’s park deck on the market, so they don’t hold back with the construction of the No Drama. Built around Salomon’s advanced Aspen SLCT core, which uses strips of hand-selected wood to ensure quality, sandwiched with mid-density fibreglass for a lively feel underfoot. It’s milled out to varying thickness lengthwise from tip to tail. Thicker and therefore stiffer sections sit on either side of your bindings, driving power to the contact points, a thinner zone is directly underfoot giving you more board feel engaging your toe and heel directly with the edges.

Carbon rods extend from the insert packs out to the tip and tail, allowing you to load up these key zones to boost pop and bolstering ollie power. Rubber pads sit in the sidewalls to soak up chatter, dampen vibration and take some of the slap out of big landings.

Roundup

A favourite of Maddie Mastro and Annika Morgan, the Salomon No Drama is a world-class freestyle snowboard, built to handle the biggest jumps, the steepest transitions and the gnarliest pipes out there.

Pros:

  • Bags of natural pop
  • It’s a freestyle board that isn’t just confined to the park

Cons:

  • Most likely a little out of reach for newer riders

Tester’s Verdict

Joy Dutch – Wordsmith, Whitelines

“Maybe I’m a bit biased because I already have one of these but I really, really like the No Drama. It just feels like its full of vim and vigour, always ready to pop and have fun, even if you’re feeling a little shaky in the legs. I took this out in early May at Snowboard Spring Break in Kaunertal and it was my ideal day – blue skies, slushy snow and sun shining – and just had the most fun I’d had all week. It’s a little pocket rocket for sure, you get bags of lift and life off even the smallest hit and the smidge of early rise in the nose and tail feels great for charging through softer snow. Obviously didn’t test it in powder, but that’s not what it’s for anyway.”
