Rusty Toothbrush | Project Hijinks

Unrestrained fun

The holy matrimony of the Rusty Toothbrush boys and the Simpson Brothers is surely the best thing since sliced bread. When we first heard that Jake and Joe Simpson were to join the Rusty Toothbrush crew, we knew that we’d be in for a treat once the next Rusty film came along.

Last year’s Rusty edit brought us some of the most creative riding we saw all season, while the Simpson  Brother’s latest project Mass Culture was also one of the most entertaining films to watch all year.

Project Hijinks was definitely everything we expected it to be – and more. This thing is probably the funniest and most creative snowboard film you’ll get to feast your eyes on this season. Nothing, and we mean, nothing is off-limits. The boys jump through trees and fly up and over massive slides while blessing us with some seriously sick manoeuvres. We’re also introduced to how slacklining is done whilst attached to a snowboard (what a world).

What we like most about this 20min masterpiece is how the boys hit pretty much anything and everything they feel like. It’s like the guys just see the world as a big playground, which is probably why they manage to find the sickest looking spots and features to hit. We’re not saying these are the gnarliest spots we’ve ever seen, but there are ones here that we wouldn’t even think were rideable.

The crew takes us from streets to playgrounds to powder and bless us with something that could only have been a ridiculously fun project to be part of. The definition of Hijinks [hahy-jingks] is ‘unrestrained fun’ which we’d say sums it all up pretty well.

Get our lowdown on some of the gear featured in Project Hijinks below!

Drake Team Snowboard
The Drake Team snowboard is a legend amongst the line and ridden by both Alex Stewart and the Simpson brothers in Project Hijinks. Jake and Joe Simpson are both on the Drake Team Kohei, which is the same board but with different graphics.

Drake Reload Bindings
The Reload is Drake’s freestyle weapon, a team and fan favourite that’s nestled itself firmly into the hearts of jib kids and park rats the world over. You can see JJ Rayward tweaking out some grabs while strapped into these ones.

Northwave Domain Boots
The Northwave Domain boots are one of the toughest, most responsive boots in the world, so the fact that Tyler Chorlton, JJ Rayward and Dusan Kriz have chosen to harness their feet in these comes as no surprise.
