Who Is The Rome Ravine Select For?

As the souped-up big brother of the Ravine it’s fair to say this board isn’t for beginners. But if you’re an intermediate rider or above that still wants to challenge themselves every time they strap in and always seeks out bigger & steeper terrain then the Ravine Select might just be the board for you!

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

The Ravine Select from Rome is a powerful freeride thrash machine that can handle pretty much anything you throw in front of it and come away laughing. The directional shape has a slight taper in the back that helps to make it super nimble for quick, reactive turns and better float in powder – a float that is further boosted thanks to the Diamond 3D shaping in the nose that lifts the edges of the board to channel snow away from the nose for better left and easy turn initiation.

The profile features Rome’s Free-The-Ride profile that has camber under your backfoot that flattens out under the front foot into a progressive rocker in the nose. Put simply this means that you can make quick, powerful turns from your back leg without getting super tired. While still having stability and easy lift in the front. Absolutely perfect for the deeper days or tight tree runs.

That same profile also doubles up to not only help get you airborne in the backcountry by charging up energy in the camber section, but will let you stomp the landing by keeping your nose up and responding quickly to any quick adjustments you need to make.

Not ones to add frills where they’re not needed the Ravine select also has a reliable radial sidecut so you know exactly what you’re getting in your turns every time.

Construction and Materials

If we’re all honest with ourselves, when we start looking at top of the range, performance snowboards our brain is already imagining how much faster we can charge… and Rome clearly know this too as they’ve slapped their fastest Sinterspeed base on the bottom so you can rest assured that you won’t be hanging around on the slopes.

The Ravine Select sits at the stiffer end of the spectrum for a more responsive ride that won’t get squirrely underfoot when you start to push yourself. In the core you’ll also find that Rome have thrown pretty much everything they have at this thing to make it as beefed up and performance orientated as possible.

The Superpop core does exactly what it says on the tin and is the lightest and most responsive option to make it as easy as possible to launch yourself skyward. And when you come back down to earth you’ll find some impact plates underfoot that take the sting out of heavy landings and dampen things down for a smoother ride free from unwanted chatter… Rather like a set of good headphones on the bus.

The combination of Biax and Triax fibreglass that surrounds the core is a clever way of controlling the boards torsional flex so that it’s there when you need it, but otherwise the board still feels incredibly nippy and responsive. It almost feels like the infamous “flow state” we all try and achieve when pushing ourselves, there’s enough play to get creative and bring a smile to your riding while still charging at breakneck speed.

Lastly Rome have slotted a couple of Carbon Omega Hot Rods that run diagonally out from under your back foot towards the tail. These carbon-wrapped, carbon rods both help to add a little more response, a smoother ride and a gallon of extra pop.

Roundup

If you’re always pushing your riding to the limits both on & off the piste then the Ravine Select from Rome is an absolute belter of a snowboard that might be the perfect fit for you. This puppy can handle the steepest groomers or deepest powder with ease and is built to handle the heat.

Whether your cranking your carve to 11, tackling big drops in soft stuff or navigating through tightly packed trees the Ravine Select has what it takes to get the job done.
