Who Is The Rome Muse For?

Rome’s female-specific options are pretty great across the board, but the Rome Muse is the brand’s only real all-rounder. If you’re looking for one board to see you right regardless of what Mother Nature has cooked up the night before, this is a fantastic choice. More specifically, those who lean towards freestyle rather than freeride will get the best results.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

As is typical for all-mountain boards these days, the Rome Muse has a hybrid profile that features a camber bend in the main, and rocker sections at each end. You’ll need to put a bit more work in when riding the deep stuff, but it pays dividends everywhere else, with zero twitchiness at the contact points and plenty of pressability in the park. Plus you get a bit of leg-burn reprieve in the powder thanks to the subtly elongated nose shape.

It’s a little stiffer end-to-end than Rome’s purely freestyle offerings such as the Heist and Royal, but still sits comfortably in the go-anywhere, do-anything bracket. The waist width on this one is, by an ironically wide margin, the narrowest in Rome’s line. Expect lightning-fast edge changes when piloting this one, but riders with larger feet should definitely check it’s suitable before committing.

Construction and Materials

The straight-up poplar core is a no-frills powerhouse that can take a beating – hence why Rome calls it the ‘Stomp’ core. Bamboo rods at the nose and tail, running from inserts out to near the extremities, help to put a little more spring in the Muse’s step when you want to get airborne. Combine these two features, and you get a pretty sweet blend of liveliness and dependability.

The core itself is sandwiched between two layers of fibreglass, each of which has its own unique properties. The triax glass on top is more rigid in all directions, delivering a bit of extra torsional stiffness, while the biax layer is softer and more malleable. Again, it’s a winning combination, and one that suits an all-mountain board down to the ground. Underneath it all is a rapid sintered base, albeit one that thankfully doesn’t need to be treated with kid gloves.

Roundup

The Rome Muse is a replacement for the long-serving Lo-Fi, and is more than worthy of carrying the torch. While all-mountain boards are by their very nature a compromise of sorts, it’s always refreshing to find one that still feels like it can surprise you. That’s exactly what the Muse is like, and we defy anyone to take it for a blast and declare it to be anything less than terrific.

Trade Secrets

Matt Stillman – Marketing Manager / Team Manager, Rome

“Another new ripper for the 21/22 season, the Muse is our latest offering for discerning female riders who demand all-mountain performance. Designed with input from Ivika Jurgenson who wanted a board with a narrower waist width for nimble responsiveness. Hera, queen of the Greek Gods, graces this year’s Muse, lending her legendary beauty and grace to this sonnet worthy ride.”
