Why we chose the Rome Libertine Snowboard Boots: One boot. Four variations. Wen’s and women’s sizes. Endless all-mountain shredding.

It’s not uncommon for riders to make their snowboard boot choices based on the lace-up system rather than the fit, flex, or performance of the boot itself. Needless to say, the results aren’t always great and within a matter of hours or days riding you might start to notice niggles. Rome have done away with this part of the decision-making process, offering every snowboard boot in their line available in either men’s or women’s specific fits, with the men getting a choice between boa, hybrid boa and lace configurations. The Libertine stands as one of their most performance focussed and premium models in the redesigned line, ideal for intermediates and up.

Starting with the construction, the DuraFit Shell is created from welded TPU to deliver one of the most waterproof, durable and abrasion-free boots on the market. It’s all too common for stitching to fray around the hinge points or for slushy park laps to leave you with sodden socks at the end of the day. With the Libertine, the shell’s construction appears impressively minimal, but it maintains its shape, and flex right through the season.

The Inner-Shell Harness is integrated with the shell and cinches down on the Libertine’s Ultralon F.I.T Liner – the top shelf offering in their range. The key thing here being the dual-density heat-moldable properties in the liner and the footbed. These not only conform precisely around your feet, the section around the ankle and heel is far less prone to packing out, meaning you can keep that box-fresh feeling longer into your season and avoid any heel lift or hot spots.

We’ve selected the Hybrid fastening system, simply as we felt it balanced the quick convenience and secure locked-in feel around the ankle from a boa with the ability to fine-tune and adjust the tension in the laces. It’s a purely subjective decision, however, so don’t be too swayed by our thoughts.

“We’ll always advocate for taking the time to different boots on and using the expertise from your local shop expert. But we’d be pretty surprised if the Libertine’s don’t make it into your final shortlist”

While we never doubted the Libertine’s versatility, the finishing touches show just how broad the reach is on these boots. The Gripflex Outsole provides enough grip for occasional backcountry bootpacks and the 1:1 lasts on every model means it’s never been easier to find a perfect fit.

We get it. Boots are highly subjective and there’s never a guarantee from reading and online review that you’ve found the perfect fit, so we’ll always advocate for taking the time to different boots on and using the expertise from your local shop expert. But we’d be pretty surprised if the Libertine’s don’t make it into your final shortlist.
