Rome Guild 2020-2021 Women’s Snowboard Bindings Review

Why we chose the Rome Guild Snowboard Bindings: Don’t worry about a thing, ‘cos every little thing is gonna be all white.

Rome went back to the drawing board this season for a complete overhaul of their entire line, no mean feat considering the sheer number of products with a Romo logo on them. We’ve always had a soft spot for the Guild, but after a few tweaks and pokes from the Rome R&D team, it’s cemented as one of our absolute favourite women’s bindings on the market.

The Guild sits more on the surfy side of the Rome family with its AsymWrap chassis. It uses two points on contact on the inside of the binding to bolster response and drive power but only one on the outside, to give a looser skate style feeling to your riding.

“Rome bindings are well known for their myriad adjustments, you can refine your fit and feel down to the smallest detail”

Rome bindings are well known for their myriad adjustments, you can refine your fit and feel down to the smallest detail, locking in the most personalised and comfortable fit on the market. Starting with the PivotMount which allows your ankle strap to be moved into different positions, depending on what you want from it. The higher up it sits, the tighter your boot is in the binding and the more power is drawn out. For those loose cannon spring days slush slashing with your buddies, set it to the lowest notch for a more playful and tweakable ride.

The straps themselves are designed with comfort in mind, the EVA foam ankle strap moulds itself around your boot with larger areas on the inside and outside for extra support. The malleable material stops hotspots and pressure points from building up over the top of your foot so you can ride longer and harder. The Guild uses Rome’s futuristic ProGrip Toe Strap, that flexes with your boot for an extra grippy and locked in ride.

“Tweaking, poking, and boning out grabs all get that bit easier when you’re rocking a pair of Guilds”

Highback rotation often gets overlooked when you’re calibrating your setup but aligning your highback with the edge of your board can help boost response through your heeledge. It also gives you a wider range of motion on the medial and lateral side of your boots, so tweaking, poking and boning out grabs all get that bit easier when you’re rocking a pair of Guilds.

Dead space in a binding is a big no-no, your boot moving around inside delays response and forces you to work harder to get the results you’re after. Rome’s baseplate is able to slide to ensure you’re getting the right size and therefore the max response from your setup.

The Rome Guild is a go anywhere, do anything binding with a penchant for playing around. It’s midflexing and crazy adjustable to perform in varied conditions and across any terrain.

Tester’s Verdict 2020/21

“I’ve always been a big fan of Rome bindings. The brand has an extraordinary ability to combine response, float and versatility in what they build, with the women-specific Rome Guild’s being no exception.

“The Rome Guilds are super responsive whilst being able to give you a nice surfy feel too”

I rode the Rome Guild bindings together with one of my favourite Rome snowboards, the Lo-Fi, and in all honesty, this was like a match made in heaven. The bindings and board complimented each other to such a great length, allowing me to get the most out of both board and bindings.

The Rome Guilds are super responsive whilst being able to give you a nice surfy feel too. The bindings are able to provide a good balance between different types of riding, which is partly thanks to the mid-flex but mainly we’ve got Rome’s PivotMount system to thank. Basically, you can go ahead and move the ankle strap to match your riding style, so whether you’re on a mission to charge or go for a mellow spring cruise the Guilds have the ability to adjust.

Based on what I’ve tried and tested throughout the years, I’d rate the Rome Guilds really high. It’s amazing how a pair of bindings that feel so comfortable on your feet can be so responsive yet allow for such a mellow ride.”

“I wore these bindings with all the boards and boots I tested, and felt like they worked seamlessly with every set up.

They felt really comfortable, yet super supportive and stiff enough to withstand any sketchy icy conditions. Overall they’re super solid bindings for any type of riding!”
