Why we chose the Ride Warpig Snowboard: This porktastic party wagon is an institution unto itself.

While the rest of the world obsesses over tall, dark and handsome, the last few years have seen the snowboard industry become infatuated with short fattys. Volume shifted decks are all the rage and the popularity of Ride’s Pig line is testament to that fact. The Ride Warpig is back at it, primed and ready for your all-out mountain assault. It’s an access all areas pass for intermediate riders looking for a ride that’s as playful as it is powerful. Unsheath this porksword and get ready to go HAM.

When you get a fresh dump of snow, and you’ve only brought one board with you the Warpig will really save your bacon. The sheer width, 10mm taper and rockered nose profile of the Warpig give you all the float you’d expect from a traditional powder board, but the volume shifted shape means you’re riding a far shorter deck, increasing your manoeuvrability tenfold. Deep days and steep days are on the cards with this porcine playmate.

“Unsheath this porksword and get ready to go HAM”

While the shape of the Warpig might give the impression that it’s a pure powder ripper, what’s under the hood gives it a surprising all-mountain edge. Three carbon stringers crisscross underfoot channelling your energy directly out the contact points for a lightning fast response. The tight sidecut and increased underfoot width give the ability to dig trenches on piste, getting right up onto your edges and locking in for some mega elbows down carves without catching toes.

The mid flex and the fully rockered nose open up a buffet of buttering and pressing, and a flat midsection keeps you nice and stable on the in run. Bamboo runs through the core offering extra snap and pop for that added pep in your step when you’re taking off. With the blunted off shape of the nose and tail bringing down the swing weight down you’re super maneuverable in the air to bolster your alpine acrobatics.

This little piggy is one beefy little son of a gun. Tough as old boots, the Warpig is ready to be put through the ringer and come out laughing on the other side. High-end urethane sidewalls, Double Impact Plates underfoot, and a blended wood core offer insane durability, this is a hog you can ride day in and day out all season long.

The stone ground sintered base is slicker than a snake in a barrel of butter and more durable than the average extruded one. So you’ll get more time on the hill slush slashing and spraying skiers and less time huddled in a dank basement huffing PTEX fumes.

Variety is the spice of life and like a good Bulgogi, the Warpig is the most picante pork on the market. All-mountain really means all-mountain with the Warpig. Its versatile nature is where it really makes a name for itself, want to rip through that tree run? No problem. Fancy nosepressing that box? Go for it. Nipples down eurocarves? A doddle. Boost off windlips and natty features? Be our guest.

Ladies don’t be afraid to get jiggy with this piggy, the smaller sizes open it up as a unisex ride, or you can check out the female specific Psychocandy.

“Believe the hype, this board really does everything, and as such has been my go to board over the past 2 seasons. I was honestly blown away at this board’s ability to adapt to different terrain.

“Venturing into the park this board is as happy as, well, a pig in shit”

At high speeds the board is damp and stable, it’s a joy to carve, and due to the extra wide waist width – if you have big feet like me – you’ll have no chance of booting out. Yet at slow speeds, the board is playful and agile, it just encourages you to spin and jump off of every mogul or side-hit. Venturing into the park this board is as happy as, well, a pig in shit. Sizing down lets you spin to your heart’s content, and the big fat pig belly acts as a stable platform for rails and boxes. All this from a board that also works surprisingly well in Powder. I normally ride a 160 off piste but the 154 Warpig works just fine for me, it’s not the same feeling as riding a dedicated powder board, but it’s more than capable.

“I normally ride a 160 off piste but the 154 Warpig works just fine for me”

Going into 2021 Ride have therefore made the obvious decision to keep the board exactly the same, changing up nothing but the graphics. This year it gets a porky pink base, while a more muted black and white design is printed directly onto the fibreglass topsheet. And it’s here that I really have my only gripe with the Warpig. Ride claims this ‘topless construction’ will ‘improve overall durability and reduce weight’. Utter hogwash, weight may well be down, but durability is definitely not up. Each season I’ve had this board, after about 30 days of riding, the topsheet has started to delaminate. Whilst it doesn’t affect the performance, it’s a real notch against an otherwise crackling board.”

“The Warpig has been a long established volume shift favourite. The Warpig is shorter and fatter than your average all-mountain freeride snowboard and designed to be ridden shorter.

The Warpig is a fun, playful ride that’s super responsive, great fun charging the groomers and mini shredding side hits. Take the War Pig into the powder and you’ll feel an effortless float and a surfy fun ride thanks to the unique shape and the reverse camber profile. The Ride War Pig is versatile all mountain board that is fun and easy for intermediate to advanced riders.”

Tester’s Verdict 2019/20

“I’ve been keen to try the Warpig since Ride brought out the smaller size, and I got to try it out on a May bluebird day after we’d just got a huge dump of snow.

“Despite its impressive performance elsewhere, it felt like this board was made for boosting sidehits and playing around”

Despite the wider profile and my embarrassingly small feet (UK 4), I actually didn’t find it a problem. I was still able to throw it edge to edge and didn’t feel a lack of control at all. As the piste warmed up and started getting slushy I was pleasantly surprised with its ability to smash through lumps and bumps.

You’re able to really crank down and pump turns through your back leg, and once you got on an edge you were locked in solid as anything.

Effortless float in powder; you can ride loosey-goosey surf style when you want to or get a bit meatier and slash big roosters. Quick in and out of trees, it’s great for them tighter turns.

Despite its impressive performance elsewhere, it felt like this board was made for boosting sidehits and playing around. It spun easily and the flat sections made landings feel super solid while buttering around flatland felt easier than it should have. I would very happily buy one of these today and ditch my other boards for a season.”

Tester’s Verdict 2019/20

What a FUN board. It is shaped like a coffin which put a smile on my face. Good graphics aswell which
suited the vibe of the board. Size wise, I rode smaller than I would usually ride due to its short wide
profile and found it fun and easy to throw around. Gives a real surfy feel to your riding.

“Suited best to a intermediate to advanced rider who enjoys freestyle, wants a fun shred stick and likes to have a good hoon”

This board is really versatile. I found it performed well both on hard pack piste cruising along and also
performed real well in the park over jumps, on rails and for flat ground tricks. Impressive edge hold for a mid-flex board. It was great for general side hit fun. It wasn’t particularly swift to change edges due to the larger waist width.

Being a flat board I did miss the pop you get from a cambered board whilst carving and wouldn’t suited to those looking for a high performance carving board. Managed to take this off-piste and even put a few powder turns in. This board did not disappoint still delivering a good performance in softer snow.

The tapered directional shape really works well to give the board added float. It did loose a bit of its stability in uneven harder off-piste terrain. Suited best to an intermediate to advanced rider who enjoys freestyle, wants a fun shred stick and likes to have a good hoon.

Tester’s Verdict 2018/19

Chris MoranHere Be Treasure

“I had high hopes for this one, having been accosted by another tester over pint four of apres and told that the Warpig was essentially one of Michelangelo’s lost masterpieces. Sadly though, on my turn to gather the generals in their masses, the temperatures had risen, and the powder perfection was replaced with a rain inversion. Sheeeeet (ice).

Whether I’d have loved the War Pig though is a hard one for me. It was by far the widest of the nug-ified pow boards, and with UK 8.5 snowboard boots I felt undergunned. I reckon you need 10.5s upwards for the Warpig to not feel like a tank.

“It was the one board that everyone looked at and gave appreciative nods to, so Ride must be doing something right. I just didn’t get what that was”

Aesthetically, the squared-off nose and tail (twinned too – que passa powder board?) didn’t float my boat. It reminded me of a 1980s Ford Grenada bonnet. The elegance and hand-crafted lines of the Jones Storm Chaser nose felt like an Aston Martin grill in comparison.

That said, it was the one board that everyone looked at and gave appreciative nods to, so Ride must be doing something right. I just didn’t get what that was. But yes, the snow was pretty awful that day so I’d like to try it again in better conditions for sure. Either that, or instead of having my finger on the pulse of the zeitgeist, I have in fact, just got it stuck up my own arse. Hard to tell.”

Trade Secrets

Jonny Russel – Ride UK Rep

“Fast becoming an all time classic the Warpig knows exactly what it needs to do! Rip piste, shred pow, cause trouble all over the mountain. Still defying convention as to what an all-mountain snowboard should look like, the tapered, directional Warpig does not disappoint.”
