Ride A-6 2021-2022 Snowboard Bindings Review

  • Price: £235 / €260
  • Sizes: M, L
  • Flex: 6/10
  • Entry System: Classic

A for aluminium, 6 for medium flex. Ride are keeping their binding names simple and to the point. Although perhaps intimidatingly dull in the world of snowboard industry names, the lack of useless buzzwords like “flight” (the most overused name in snowboard product design) actually creates a refreshingly simple system for choosing your bindings.

The Letter = the construction materials (A for aluminium, C for Composite). The Number = the flex rating. Honestly, it’s a doddle and makes shopping simpler for those looking for either their first bindings or someone making a specific change to their quiver. Despite the simple name, these bindings are packed with tech and available in 3 different colours: Black, White and Olive.

Who Is The Ride A-6 For?

If you’re an intermediate rider looking to get your first setup then this might be the perfect option to help your progression across the whole mountain while you figure out your preferred niche. But sitting in the middle of the flex range, with a performance focused aluminium frame these are also a great option for any riders looking for a reliable, “all-mountain” binding.

With enough flex to bone out some grabs in the park and a nice, responsive feel you’ll be as comfortable in the park as the powder.

Baseplate

Aluminium. The performance choice. Although this binding sits in the middle of the Ride range, they’ve improved the responsiveness by using a less rigid design than previous models. This helps to give a more reactive flex and transfer power to where you need it better.

The 2.5 degree canted footbed will help to look after your joints by aligning your knees more comfortably. With the added bonus of adding increased leverage over the nose and tail – perfect for those looking to make the most of the medium flex and get their butter on.

Ride’s binding discs are also compatible with most mounting patterns (2×4, 4×4 and channel) so you won’t be limited for choice to mount to your preferred board.

Straps and Highbacks

Utilising similar tech to Rides game changing Slimewalls the Slimebacks (highbacks) utilise urethane to create a damper, smoother ride. These clever little highbacks are also more flexible horizontally than vertically which helps to give you more power in your pop without blocking your ability to tweak your grabs out to the side.

Much like the bindings understated name, the straps are also straight forward and to the point. The minimalist toe strap keeps a low profile (and your toes tied down) and the 2 piece ankle strap keeps your heel in place. Simple.

Roundup

It’s possible that the naming system for the Ride binding range might encourage some people to assume that the A10 is the best.

Well don’t let the system fool you, because if you still want your bindings to feel playful in the park and maintain some easier flex for your presses and grabs then the A-6 is the right option.
