19 year old Chase Josey comes out on top of a stacked field to top the 2015 edition of the Red Bull Double Pipe at Buttermilk, Aspen.
The mission of the Red Bull Double Pipe is pretty clear: to push the boundaries of what’s possible in halfpipe riding and mix up competitive snowboarding primarily through course innovation.
It’s safe to say that the above goals were realised in the 2015 edition, with a bigger, more creative setup than ever and a progressive cast of riders willing to give riding it their best shot.
Over the warm up days we saw doubles chucked over the channel gap, 720s over the spine and a huge variety of very individual lines through the pipe.
On finals day, it was young American rider Chase Josey, last year’s second place finisher, who pulled through landing a run consisting of a cab 900 off the jump, Michalchuk over the channel gap, frontside double cork 1080, switch straight-air over the 22-foot spine, alley-oop switch backside 720, backside 360 over the 18-foot spine, crippler over the wallride and frontside 720 over the volcano. It was a solid first run that earned him a score that would ultimately stick for the duration of the contest.
Slopestyle specialist Ståle Sandbech proved that he is undoubtedly one of the best riders on the planet with his second place finish, putting down a backside 1080 on the jump, frontside lipslide on the rail that lined the start of the spine, double crippler, and huge backside 360 off the spine transferring into the opposite side of the volcano on his second run.
Australian Scotty James rounded out the podium managing to post a score of 76.20 which was enough to hold off the likes of the Ferguson brothers, Arthur Longo and Jan Scherrer.
