Who Are The Quiksilver The Black Alder Stretch GTX Jacket and Altostratus Bib Pant For?

Made for the more serious backcountry exploreRs, the 2L Black Alder Jacket and Altostratus Bib Pants do a good job at keeping the elements out. They do a great job in the resorts too, but if simply planning on taking them for a spin on the piste, you’re preventing the jacket and pants from living up to their full potential in the backcountry.

Materials and Construction

Gore-Tex has been at the forefront when it comes to durable outerwear fabric for a long time now. Its ability to simultaneously keep water from getting in and water vapour from getting out is mind-blowing, especially as no other company has yet managed to crack the code to the same extent. However, as both the jacket and the pants only come with a shell fabric (there’s no insulation) you ought to make sure there’s enough room to fit both a base- and a mid-layer underneath to stay warm.

For the lining on the jacket, Quiksilver has used a lightweight breathable ripstop material for added breathability, while a lightweight taffeta fabric has been added to the pants to make them sit more comfortable against the legs.

Fit and Features

If worried about the ability to move when hiking up the mountain, both the jacket and the pants are made with a forgiving, stretchy, fabric (you won’t feel any restriction in your movement).

The jacket is designed in a modern cut, leaving out any excess fabric thus making it light and ideal for longer hikes, while the Altostratus Bibs have been cut in a regular fit.

The Black Alder jacket is equipped with a 3-way adjustable helmet-compatible hood, handwarmer pockets with a key clip and a mesh lens cleaner, and plenty of other pockets to stash everything from sunnies to snacks in.

Making it easier to adjust the bibs, an outside waist adjuster has been featured. You’ll also find a transceiver secured chest pocket, a zip secured pocket in the thigh and plenty of other useful features.

Roundup

As a brand that represents both surfing and snowboarding, Quiksilver understands better than many the impacts plastic pollution has on our planet. We’re stoked that the brand is making good use of plastic bottles fishing gear dumped in the ocean to create quality outerwear like the Black Alder Stretch GTX Jacket and Altostratus Bib Pant to take you through the toughest of blizzards.
