Quiksilver is one of the world’s most famous surf brands and a solid snowboard outerwear brand in its own right. Formed in 1969 on the beaches of Australia, Quiksilver have a history of action sports firsts and over the last 50 years or so the Australian-founded, American-based, brand has done more than most to amalgamate the surfing and snowboarding worlds; bridging the gap between the two sister sports.
They were the first company to make technical board shorts, the first company to make snowboard-specific outerwear influenced by the beach lifestyle, and the first company to have a dedicated action sports brand just for women (Roxy). And that’s just a few of their impressive firsts.
After 50 years in the game, they continue to be the industry leader in action sports apparel. Their iconic mountain and wave logo, inspired by The Great Wave off Kanawaga, remains completely unchanged since it was introduced in 1969. How’s that for longevity?!
In 1983, Mel Gibson wore Quiksilver in Lethal Weapon. Nowadays though, their garments are worn by some impressive team riders rather than mediocre actors. Ever heard of someone called Travis Rice? Thought so. Rice has been fitted out in Quiksilver for quite a few years now, and the same goes for Bryan Fox.
Other riders such as Austen Sweetin and Miles Fallon represent the playfulness of the Quiksilver line by rocking the bold colours, retro prints and boxy oversized fits that characterise the ‘High Altitude’ collection. Underlining the quality on offer, all Quiksilver gear has to meet the standards of the pro team.
