Why we chose the Picture MT Xpore Jacket and MT Xpore Bib Snowboard Outerwear: A sustainable option for the hardcore freeriders.

Picture Organic Clothing is at the forefront when it comes to producing eco-friendly durable outerwear. At a time when the textile industry is responsible for 8% of the world’s carbon emissions, innovative brands like Picture are developing alternative solutions for non-petroleum-based fabrics.

For FW21, 60% of Picture’s outerwear range is made using recycled and biosourced fabrics, including their Xpore Membrane. Part of the LAB range, the new Women’s MT Xpore Jacket and Bib Pants (and the male equivalent the Folder Xpore Jacket and Bib Pants), are equipped with the eco-friendly Xpore membrane.

Who Are The Picture MT Xpore Jacket and MT Xpore Bib For?

This is for the ladies who are no strangers to hiking off the beaten path. Being exposed to the uncertainty of changes in both weather and terrain requires not only experience and knowledge but also a proper outfit. The MT Xpore jacket and bibs are made for freeride enthusiasts who appreciate the beauty of nature and want to do their best to preserve it.

Materials and Construction

Flexible and breathable, the 3-layer MT Xpore jacket and pants offer freeriders excellent protection for all types of conditions. Equipped with the new nanoporous and eco-friendly Xpore 25K/20K membrane, this becomes an eco-friendly option that keeps the rider safe from the elements.

After years of trying to perfect the Xpore membrane, Picture finally presented it to the market with the Demain outfit back in 2020. Xpore is made using recyclable polyolefin and the membrane’s nanopores are created through a process of mechanical stretching that doesn’t require the use of solvents or PFCs. The membrane ranks high in both waterproofing and breathability, whilst being extremely lightweight making it the perfect option to wear in the backcountry.

Fit and Features

Both the jacket and the pants are designed with a fit new for Picture this year. Still categorised as a regular fit, the jacket falls a bit longer over the legs with the back being slightly longer than the front providing for maximum protection for the bottom.

The jacket is equipped with all the features expected from a backcountry specific jacket: an adjustable ergonomic hood, waterproof zippers, underarm zippered vents, a removable snowskirt, a pass pocket, an inner pocket with a zipper, including a handful of other things.

The pants don’t fall short on features either and are equipped with waterproof zippers, a Lycra back panel, adjustable straps and a double easy entry/exit venting system.

Roundup

Over the year we’ve seen Picture offering some really creative sustainable alternatives in the outerwear market, with their Xpore Membrane being one of the most successful ones. We know the Picture U44 Jacket and U77 Bib Pants do not come cheap, but if you’re serious about making a difference, spend your money on something that’s both durable and made in consideration of the climate crisis.

Trade Secrets

Johanne Berthou – Communication Coordinator, Picture

“It’s Jackie Passo’s favourite outfit and Jackie is part of the Picture Family since last winter, we’re so happy to have welcomed her! Lots of great projects coming soon. The men’s version of the outfit was previewed last winter (Demain JKT + Pant) and was a big hit! It was our first 3-layer suit equipped with the Xpore ecological membrane, for a level of performance equal to that of other suits on the market, equipped with Gore-Tex.

For FW21, the designs and names of this model have evolved and for the first time, we also have a women’s version, adapted to the female morphology: the MT Xpore JKT. To finish, every girl in the office got it for this winter, because its design and colour was unanimous!”
