Why we chose the Patagonia Macro Puff Snowboard Mid Layer: Sustainable Puff.
Brand spanking new for 2019/2020 the Patagonia Macro Puff is the big cousin of their iconic Nano and Micro Puffs. It’s a warmer, slightly bulkier version for those days you don’t really want to leave the cocoon of your duvet.
Whilst it’s probably not ideal for spring riding, this is more of a ‘dead of winter need all the help you can get’ kind of layer, and its warmth to weight ratio is insanely good. Floating off the scales at around 420g, it’s lighter than your average loaf of bread.
“The insulation even sits in offset baffles to reduce stitching, which in turn reduces the risk of losing heat.”
The boffs at Patagonia thought of everything when making this badboy- the insulation even sits in offset baffles to reduce stitching, which in turn reduces the risk of losing heat.
Although it isn’t fully waterproof, it has been coated with a water repellency to keep the weather at bay. It’s also backed up by the fact that the insulation Patagonia have used is synthetic, so it can still perform when wet. We don’t recommend you dunk it in a bath, but it would fare better than a down option if you did…
It’s longer than its family members, which makes it perfect for snowboarding as it comes down to cover your butt. Thankfully it doesn’t hit the XXXTRA steezy skier tall tee length, but it’s just enough to give that bit of extra warmth.
