Materials and Construction

The two-layer shell jacket and soft-shell bib pants have been designed to be both waterproof and breathable. Using Oakley’s exclusive FN Dry technology, the membrane has been laminated with a 10K protection that allows heat and sweat to escape through evaporation while providing a protective barrier against water and wind.

On top of that, Oakley’s also added their quick-drying DWR (durable water repellent) coating called O-Protect as an added layer of waterproofing. The coating repels water thus minimising the outerwear’s water absorption and accelerating its drying time. It’s also breathable, so it won’t prevent the airflow from promoting evaporation.

As for sustainability points, Oakley’s pushing to become more conscious on this side too. The face fabric on both the jacket and the pants are made using 100% recycled polyester, meaning that the polyester used is derived from post-consumer plastic bottles which both help reduce C02 emission in the air and keep plastic out of landfills.

Fit and Features

Designed with a hip-length performance fit, the jacket sits comfortably around your torso whilst not being too baggy to affect your performance on the slopes. To mix things up, the pants come in a slightly baggier, relaxed, fit that allows you to layer up underneath without feeling any restriction in your movement.

The jacket is equipped with an adjustable helmet-compatible hood, waterproof zips, a pocket on the left chest, side pockets, an RFID pocket, and a mesh goggle pocket. On top of that, it’s got Ståle’s signature skull logo on the left chest, an Oakley stretch logo on the lower left arm, adjustable cuffs with thumbholes, a removable snowskirt and zippered vents underneath the armpits.

Not lacking in features either, the bib pants come with branded suspenders with inner grip and buckles for a customised fit, a two-way zip opening, an elastic waistband with waist loops for added comfort, inner thigh vents for added breathability, plenty of pockets (sides, right thigh and back), elastic cuffs with snap closure, and boot gaiters with a metal hook. The bibs too feature Ståle’s signature skull logo on the back hip.

Roundup

A go-to outfit designed to fit the likes of the masses. This is an all-around favourite that features some of the best tech out there with a waterproof, breathable and windproof membrane to take you through any weather. The design and style are ageless too, so the whole look won’t be out of the next season (when does camo really ever go out of style).

Pros:

  • Designed for and with the help of an Olympic athlete – this itself speaks for the all-around quality and performance
  • It’s a stylish outfit and the jacket can be worn off the slopes too

Cons:

  • Price – a point that can always be argued. However, Oakley’s years of expertise might justify the slightly higher price tag

Tester’s Verdict

Paul Wool – Snowboard Workshop Technician

“This jacket toes the line of garish and stylish bang on the money. The material felt strong and held up against the slush that tends to creep into every nook and cranny keeping me dry & comfy. The biggest takeaway was the fit though, it was absolutely perfect, and as a taller guy that’s normally resigned to things fitting super boxy, too short or bordering on excessive ski-bum levels of XL it was super refreshing to put on a large that fit to size properly.

“Look good feel good” is the kind of cheap phrase that makes my skin crawl quicker than an infected Claires Accessories ear piercing. But I’m a normally a pretty nerdy dude and yet when I put this jacket on even my turbo-limby riding started to feel cool… at least to me anyway.”
