Why we chose the Oakley Flight Tracker XL Snowboard Goggles: Great adaptability across a range of weather and terrain.

The Flight Trackers are an everyday kind of goggle, the frame’s been designed to offer max peripheral view, with the lower corners pulled down to give a more direct line of sight for scouting landings or spotting that patch of ice before it’s too late.

Drawing inspiration from the classic Canopy goggle with its oversize lens and full frame, the Flight Trackers are built with a VIP access-all-areas pass to the mountains.

Who Are The Oakley Flight Tracker XL For?

Still relatively new on the scene but already making a name for itself amongst the big hitters, the Flight Tracker is Oakley’s latest and greatest offering aimed at snowboarders and skiers who don’t want to be tied down to any riding style or terrain.

Whether you’re scouting freshies on a bluebird, getting down and dirty carving on the rolling corduroy, dipping through the trees with flat light or finishing the day with a sunset session in the park, the Flight Trackers will handle it all with aplomb.

Lens

Like all Oakley goggles, the Flight Trackers use Oakley’s exclusive Prizm lenses. They work to filter specific wavelengths of light, emphasising colours to which your eyes are more sensitive and blocking those that distract you, which in turn maximises visibility and clarity. Being able to differentiate between different types and textures of terrain is invaluable, especially if you’re all about making the most of any and all conditions. Dips and contours, icy patches and powder stashes, you’ll be able to distinguish between them and detect previously unseen details in the landscape.

Mother Nature can be a wily mistress, and it’s not uncommon for the weather to change drastically in the blink of an eye. Whether the storm’s rolling in, or the sun finally punches through the clouds, Prizm lenses offer great performance across a variety of lighting conditions. They’ll quite literally change the way you look at the mountains.

While it borrows many features from the Canopy, one area that the Flight Tracker differs is in its use of toric lenses. Still relatively new on the scene, toric lenses are an amalgamation of spherical and cylindrical styles, offering a best of both worlds approach.

Curved horizontally and vertically, but with a slightly flatter angle along the Y (vertical) axis. This is the most optically correct option on the market currently and is strategically designed to reduce glare points and avoid distortion. The shape gives extra volume inside that works with the venting on the top and bottom of the frame to allow air to flow through the goggles to alleviate steam and fog building up on the lens.

Frame and Straps

The Flight Tracker uses Oakley’s keyway lock system, ensuring your lenses are secure but easily swappable with a range of different Prizm tints if and when you feel the need. The benefits of a good pair of goggles go beyond visual factors, they protect from the elements, and when you’re going hell for leather down a slope or dipping and diving through a tight tree run you want to know you’re in good hands.

No stone left unturned, the Flight Trackers make the most of everything Oakley has to offer, the high-grade polycarbonate Plutonite lens material offers full impact resistance, built in UV protection and are pre-treated with Oakley’s signature F3 anti-fog coating. Externally, the Flight Tracker’s malleable O-Matter frames wrap round your face, feature discreet notches to fit prescription eyewear and come as standard with sweat-wicking triple layer face foam for all day comfort.

Roundup

Even among such esteemed company, the Flight Tracker stands out as one of our favourite Oakley goggles to date. We love the all-rounder vibes, the total adaptability for any conditions, and the classic framed look. With three sizes to choose from and a whole range of Prizm lenses and colourways, the Flight Trackers bring the mass appeal factor in a big way.

Oakley bring the same perspicuity to their brand ideals as they do their lenses, they strive to be the best, and for what it’s worth, in our opinion when you look at a goggle like the Flight Tracker, they’re definitely succeeding.
