It’s business as usual for the ankle strap of the NOW Select Pro, as it retains the ‘Hyperfuse II’ version that offers consistent tension and lightweight durability. The toe strap has been improved, however, and will mould to the contours of your boot regardless of whether you like to place it over the top or right on the toe.

There’s a new highback in town, too; boasting a pleasingly Ronseal-esque name, the ‘Freestyle’ highback has a flattish, symmetrical design with a hidden flex point in the upper section, ideal when you’re tweaking every which way. As always, you can swap out for NOW’s ‘Highcups’ instead, which offer up a surfier ride in the pow. Combined with Skate-Tech, it can make even the mellowest powder run feel all-time.

In many ways it feels like the last decade has seen a lot of things go from bad to worse – and then from worse to “oh wait no, this is worse”. Fortunately the NOW Select Pro is here as a case for the defence – a true modern classic that has spent its relatively short time on this earth building on its innovative foundation, and slowly evolving into something better than what came before. OK, so it may not counterbalance the recent erosion of social and political norms, and the various threats to democracy that followed, but it’s a start. You can also opt for the YES collab version, although it’s essentially just a jazzier colourway.
