NOW Brigada 2020-2021 Women’s Snowboard Bindings Review

  • Price: £230 / $250
  • Sizes: S, M
  • Flex: 5/10
  • Entry System: Classic

The Brigada is NOW’s high end women’s all-mountain freestyle binding, coming into its second season riding high with a deluge of positive reviews. The Brigada fills the gap in the line for a freestyle specific binder that’s performance focused.

With exclusive use of NOW’s women’s specific FM Highback, which is ergonomically designed flex with the leg so you can really tweak and poke out your grabs. It also cuts weight in key areas without detrimentally affecting the strength and durability.

“The highback itself might be soft and playful, but you still get power driven to your edges via the SkateTech system”

Unlike a lot of other softer flexing bindings, what’s really nice about the Brigada is that it still delivers quick and efficient response across varied terrain. The highback itself might be soft and playful, but you still get power driven to your edges via the SkateTech system. It’s a best of both worlds approach for those who don’t want to sacrifice performance in any area.

NOW’s Asym Sieva Strap offers more support on the lateral side of the foot, when you’re wanting to switch it up you can simply swap the strap to the other foot for a whole different ride. The Brigada is also compatible with their miniature Highcups, remove the highback and switch to these for a super loose and surfy feel. You’ll get a wildly increased range of movement for days you want to really get twisted.

“Despite its prowess between the park ropes, the Brigada really does deliver across the whole mountain”

Despite its prowess between the park ropes, the Brigada really does deliver across the whole mountain, although if you are looking for something more suited to aggressive charging, then the Conda might be more your style.

Tester’s Verdict 2019/20

“I’ve always been a bit reluctant to fully give in to the hype behind NOW bindings, I’m very much in the school of “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”, but I have to admit these are a great pair of binders.

“I could shift my weight even slightly and the energy transfer was instant”

I felt like they gave my riding a really loose, surfy feel and I could shift my weight even slightly and the energy transfer was instant. The edge to edge transitions are super smooth and you’re able to roll through turns with ease. I like that they feel more chilled, they’re not twitchy and ultra sensitive, but when you’re hooning it on piste, they’re still super responsive.

The straps are comfortable and don’t leave pressure points across the foot. I liked that the highback was a smaller profile, it allowed for more movement and you’re able to get more playfulness out of the binding. It fit well with my boot and unlike some bindings there wasn’t any digging in around my calf.

My only gripe is that the footbed seems quite wide, it could be due to wearing a smaller footprint boot, but I felt like there was quite a lot of space either side of my boot.”
