Northwave Team Talks | Episode 1

From Wena’s backyard to urban street missions, the Northwave team get wild in the Czech Republic

In the first episode of Team Talks, Northwave’s new series for this season, the team, accompanied by the Drake team riders Joe and Jake Simpson, set out to explore one of the snowboard havens of Eastern Europe – the Czech Republic, a country where beer is cheaper than water.

“With some of the most random interviews you’ll ever hear and a few too many encounters with the police, you will be right there with us witnessing what a week out with the team looks like”

Not only do the Czech cater for the thirsty, but thanks to the country’s complex history and its time as part of the Soviet Union, it’s also proven to be a mecca for street riders who are looking for spots where they can let their creativity flow.

In the first half of the episode, the crew hits Wena’s Backyard, a DIY park open for everyone. The gang spends one full week here, making the most of the unique park and its surrounding areas whilst getting to know the guy who put it all together – Wena Kutil. The Simpson brothers, and the rad ladies on the Northwave team (Veroniqi Hanssen, Selena Sanchez, and Sophia Schroll), also use the week as an opportunity to showcase their weapon of choice, TAO of Drake, to film an edit called “Tao of Beginnings” to honour the first unisex board in the Drake quiver.

The second half of the film follows the crew on their Street Mission: from children’s playgrounds to late-night sessions and a few encounters with the local police.

So, in the words of the Northwave team themselves, “With some of the most random interviews you’ll ever hear and a few too many encounters with the police, you will be right there with us witnessing what a week out with the team looks like.”

Enjoy!

Drake Tao Of Drake Snowboard 2022-2023

PRICE: €400, $450

In reality, the gender categories for snowboards are far from cut and dry. Over the years we’ve seen female-specific boards take a heavy influence from a men’s model, and (latterly, and to a lesser extent) vice versa. It’s also not uncommon to find a rider using a board that’s technically aimed at the opposite gender, because it better suits their physical profile.

What you still don’t see very often, though, is a board that wears its suitability for both men and women as a badge of honour. That’s what Drake’s new Tao of Drake snowboard does, and you’ll now find it under the feet of the brand’s team riders regardless of chromosomes.

Who Is The Drake Tao Of Drake For?

Despite this novel approach, this certainly isn’t for everyone. Unless you favour the JP Walker approach of riding park to warm up for the street, you’d be better off on something with an all-mountain focus. Freestyle fiends will love it though.
