The world’s first smartwatch made specifically for action sports has arrived, and it’s come courtesy of Nixon. The Californian brand has a long history of supporting snowboarding and surfing, and this is designed to enhance your experience of both. It will go without saying that the Nixon Mission smartwatch is a tough mother. The casing is a combination of polycarbonate and stainless steel, making it relatively light as well as incredibly shock-resistant. The display is made from Corning Gorilla Glass that can withstand heavy impacts, and the strap is 100% silicone. While metal straps can affect the temperature of your hand and fabric ones can irritate, this will stay comfortable all day.

Software-wise, it uses Google’s AndroidWear system, and is easily synced to a Google Fit account. Thern there’s what makes it suitable for snowboarders, other than its durability. Nixon have teamed up with Snocountry to provide real-time snow reports and resort info directly to your wrist. It also uses Trace to ensure all your movements on the hill – top speed, overall distance, number of riding days – are accurately recorded. If you’re a stat fan, this watch delivers everything you could ask for.

It’s just as good at tracking the surf conditions in the summer, and can withstand up to ten atmospheres of pressure. Even if you don’t venture into the water, the Nixon Mission’s day-to-day performance means you won’t just be slapping this on at the first sign of winter. Customise the colours of the case, bezel and strap as you see fit, and the display can even be changed to resemble one of Nixon’s classic analogue watches.
