The Nitro Team Pro is brand new for this season and represents the pinnacle of binding technology and production. It’s a step up from the classic Team and is stiffer flexing for those who like to charge hard and fast from first lifts to last light.

Every brand is searching for ways to keep their products lightweight but still durable and strong, and Nitro have thrown their hat in the ring here with their Air Dampening tech. After all, what could be lighter than air? Pockets of air underneath the toes and heels absorb some of the chatter as you’re riding, reduce the impact felt in the feet and keep the baseplate weight down.

Nitro’s minidisk reduces contact with the board, which allows it to flex more naturally underfoot, so you’ll have more luck when you’re trying to pedal turn your board. Asymmetric highback allows for a slight lateral flex but keeps the edge to edge response rapid so you’ll be turning and burning with no issues.

Nitro are big believers in padded straps, and this ankle strap is thicker and denser to provide more stability and security when you’re cranking turns. The toe strap utilises Vibram rubber which is extra durable and sticky, so you’re really locked in over the front of your boot.

If you’re into steep riding and hefty carving, then this might just be the binding for you.

Tester’s Verdict

Paul WoolProfessor

“This is a hell of a pair of bindings. The Nitro Team Pro are, I guess, ridden by the stacked Nitro team; a line up of who’s who in snowboarding, a bunch of serious heavy hitters. Holding the bindings in your hands, you can quickly tell they are light, strong and packed with tech. They definitely look very ‘pro’, worthy of the team that rides them.

I rode these bad boys for a lovely day in Jan 2019 on an all-mountain board in a wide range of conditions; park, powder, piste and the bits in between.

Strapping in to the Pros you notice the luxury, your boots sit well, there is a super comfortable heel cup, and you’re not squeezing in and out. The straps are decent, I like the sticky rubber toe strap, it feels solid without pinching. The buckles are great, they feel premium and long lasting, they didn’t come loose or get stuck – always good. The adjustments work well, easy without much faff.

On the snow you feel the stiffness straight away. I think they’re about an 8, so right up the stiffness scale. I do like a stiff binding, so maybe i’m biased, but this felt really good. The highback is uneven being taller on your inner heel, which allows you greater movement, particularly leaning back on your tail. I’d probably like a bit more torsional flex in the highback, but over all it was great, really responsive board feel and control at speed.

The baseplate dampened really well and was definitely comfortable. The connection with the board was slightly lost, I’d prefer a bit more feel, but you can’t have it all, the shock absorption is next-level, it definitely takes the strain off your knees which works for me. I was told there is a canted footbed? I can’t honestly say I noticed this. But overall the foot bed is a dream, hard to beat that feeling.

Solid, responsive, comfortable, the Nitro Team Pro is a serious binding not to be trifled with. Definitely avoid if you are a beginner, noodler, or someone looking for a soft easy binding. These are built for sending, roasting, and all mountain abuse. Highly recommend.”
