The Nitro Beast is the all mountain quiver killer designed in collaboration with kings of the hill Torgeir Bergrem, Eero Ettala, Sven Thorgren and Marcus Kleveland. With input from the Volcom riders, they’ve managed to create a board that will destroy the park and also feel at home across varied terrain.

The Team features a traditional positive camber profile, which makes for an incredibly lively and explosively poppy ride. The long effective edge adds stability and responsiveness on piste, and the four contact points keep you sailing smooth and steady at speed.

“Railkiller edges are twice as thick as standard, and offer supreme impact resistance”

The twin shape begs to be thrown and spun around, and is perfect for getting those switch tricks dialled in. The centred stance offers a perfectly equal swing weight for when you’re throwing those spins and means you can ride out switch with no dramas.

The Team has a Sintered Speed Formula II Base, which is a bit of a mouthful but essentially is super absorbent, extra tough and speedy as hell to keep you turning and burning all day long.

The Powercore II profile is mostly poplar with beechwood stringers to add extra pop and responsiveness along the board. It’s fairly lightweight, but retains the strength of a much heavier core. The Ballistic Impact Panels are made of Kevlar and further add to the durability of this board, and you’ll be able to really put it through the ringer without fearing for its life. Railkiller edges are twice as thick as standard, and offer supreme impact resistance.

The Beast is a solid, reliable offering from Nitro that will ride much like a ‘traditional’ snowboard, just twice as strong. If you’re a fan of no-nonsense riding, without the fluff and frill then the Beast would be a great shout to destroy the mountain with.

Tester’s Verdict

Paul WoolProfessor

“The Beast is precisely that, an absolute animal. Riding this is like running to the toilet when you’re touching cloth, if you make it it’s glorious and magnificent, if you don’t… well, it’s a bit shitty. You have to be a confident and experienced rider to properly enjoy this board, otherwise it’ll just take you for a ride.

“Really stable underfoot when taking off and landing”

This thing was poppy as all hell, it was constantly spring loaded ready to go, you can absolutely BOOST on it. I’m a pretty aggressive rider, so enjoyed the stiffer, dynamic side of it, but could see how if you were more of a mellow person it might be a bit much for you. It’s a board that can make something out of nothing, it’ll boost off of anything at any given time.

Not so much a jib board, the flatland I did try was a bit stilted and felt a bit unnatural, but for the bigger park features it was great. Really stable underfoot when taking off and landing.

On piste it was a machine, it wanted to hoon it all the time. It’s got a super smooth turn arc and really flings you out at the end so you’re able to keep momentum going the whole time. Speed wise I was keeping up with the likes of a Flagship and a Custom so it was pretty damn good.

A great board for a confident rider who wants a bigger freestyle board that’ll be able to handle the pistes easily.”
