Why we chose the Nikita Willow Pullover Snowboard Jacket: A resort-friendly jacket that gains extra points thanks to its style and sustainability.

Nikita’s gone all in this winter as the brand is celebrating two decades of existence. The much loved all-female brand is introducing its largest sustainable line yet for winter 2020/21. A wide range of this year’s collection has been produced using sustainable methods, with the Nikita Willow Pullover Jacket being one such item.

Born as a brand to make clothes for girls who ride, Nikita has come a long way since they first started off in the back of a skateboard shop in the late 90s. 20 years later, the brand is still driven by the same rad agenda, and Nikita’s ability to mix style with practicality is what’s earned the Willow Pullover Jacket its spot in this year’s Whitelines 100.

“By choosing to use an insulation that is 100% made out of post-consumer plastic bottles, Nikita’s giving a new life to up to 10 plastic bottles per jacket”

Embarking on the journey for a greener future, Nikita’s teamed up with Thermore and are featuring the Thermore EcoDown Insulation in a bunch of their new 2021 collection – including in the Willow Pullover Jacket.

By choosing to use an insulation that is 100% made out of post-consumer plastic bottles, Nikita’s giving a new life to up to 10 plastic bottles per jacket. This means a decrease in plastic landfill and it’ll also help protect energy reserves for future generations. The Ecodown Fibers also stop the use of microfibers, and thus prevent additional plastic from polluting our lakes, oceans, and eventually our food.

With a 60g insulation in the body and 40g at both sleeves and hood, the Willow Pullover Jacket is made for the rider who doesn’t want to end up getting cold on the chair lift but keen to hike off-piste every once in a while without breaking into a serious sweat.

To get you through colder days too, Nikita’s added a radiant heat pocket to the jacket. The heat pocket is built into the inside panel of the jacket and sits against the middle of your back. Just slide any standard heat warmer into the pocket, and you’ll be warm until the golden hour.

The higher the breathability rating of a jacket, the faster it allows for moisture vapour generated from your body to pass through to the outside environment. In other words, the higher the breathability, the more likely it is for you to stay dry on the inside. The 15K breathability rating of the Willow Pullover paired with the mesh-backed armpit vents will make sure you stay dry even when spring comes knocking.

Of course, staying dry on the inside isn’t the only worry as the weather might sometimes throw a 180 and go from yay to nay. When faced with an unexpected blizzard, you really do want the jacket to be able to keep the elements out. The 15K waterproofing is more than enough to do so and paired with being fully seam-sealed, which means the little holes created by a needle when sewing together the jacket have been fully covered, you won’t even notice the blizzard happened (ok, you will, but you’ll be dry and that’s important).

Not lacking in features, the jacket to pant connection here will keep the snow out and the warmth in, whilst the full zip side entry makes it easier to get in and out of the pullover. There’s also a double-entry kangaroo pocket that you can use to stash anything from a bag of crisps to a bottle of Buckfast in. All in all, it adds up to a damn fine jacket.

The model in the photo is 5’8” (173cm) tall and wearing size S.
