Why we chose the Nikita Eco Hemlock Aquarius Pullover Jacket and Eco-White Pine Relax Fit Pant Snowboard Outerwear: Good-looking, quality outerwear that’s made with Mother Nature’s best interest at heart.

One of the few female-only outerwear brands, Nikita, has always been committed to producing products for women by women. Driven by the purpose of creating clothes for girls who ride, the iconic street- and outerwear brand started its journey in the back of a skateboard shop in the late ’90s and has come a long way since.

But creating quality female outerwear isn’t Nikita’s only commitment anymore, as the brand has taken a serious look at what they can do to reduce their carbon and water footprint.

For FW21, Nikita is introducing a new fabric to their collection: the 2L Eco-Aquarius fabric. Both made from recycled PET yarn and left undyed, the Eco Hemlock Aquarius Pullover Jacket and Eco-White Pine Relax Fit Pant are paving a way for a greener textile industry.

Who Are The Nikita Eco Hemlock Aquarius Pullover Jacket and Eco-White Pine Relax Fit Pant For?

Nikita is known for their well fitted, good-looking, quality snow outerwear. The Hemlock Jacket and the Pine pants have been big favourites amongst female riders for a few years now, thanks to their clean-cut, modern design, and slight insulation. By adding the new Eco-Aquarius Dye-fabric to the look, Nikita’s created something that isn’t just appealing for us mere mortals, but Mother Nature too. If style and comfort are what you’re after, but struggling to find a sustainable solution, this is it.

Materials and Construction

Made from recycled PET yarn, the new Eco-Aquarius fabric remains completely un-dyed thus maintaining the natural green colouring from the water bottles. By choosing to not dye the yarn, Nikita is reducing the amount of chemicals, energy, CO2 emissions, and water used.

To put this into perspective, it usually takes three gallons of water to dye a single yard of fabric. By choosing solution dye, a technique that embeds the colour into the raw polyester before being processed, the result is zero wastewater. Not only does this technique save heaps of water, but it also gives the fabric superior colours fastness (meaning the colour won’t fade) and higher UV-fade resistance.

Both the pants and the jacket come with light insulation. For the jacket, the Thermolite insulation varies between the body and the sleeves, with the body being at 60G and sleeves and hood lining at 40G.

The Thermolite T3 Ecomade Insulation is also new for this season and made from a combination of fibre and batting, providing added breathability and increased comfort and warmth. It’s light, it’s soft, and it’s easy to compress. And, unlike down, it will keep on insulating when wet.

Fit and Features

Designed with a classic pullover fit, the Eco Hemlock Aquarius Pullover Jacket has easy in-and-out access with added length for more protection and a better look. The Eco-White Pine Relax Fit Pants come in Nikita’s rider-inspired relaxed fit, hosting a roomier waist and thigh shape with a slight taper at the knee for a slimmer-looking silhouette.

To prevent snow from getting in, there’s a jacket-to-pant connect to help you connect the two. The adjustable 3-piece hood on the jacket will sit nicely over a beanie or a helmet, whilst the hidden top load media pocket will keep the phone safe.

As for the pants, there’s a zippered thigh pocket to store your snacks in, while the external waist adjustment keeps the pants from falling down.

Roundup

Paving a way for a greener future, Nikita isn’t just tackling the issue of plastic but also water consumption. By introducing the Eco Hemlock Aquarius Pullover Jacket and Eco-White Pine Relax Fit Pant, we’re hoping we’ll see more of the same fabric being used for next season.
