The Swiss craftsmen at Nidecker understand this, which is why – besides pushing the boundaries of directional silhouettes with their new school carving decks – they’ve brought their expertise to bear on this little beauty: the Sensor.

Who Is The Nidecker Sensor For?

Transition seekers, rail riders, flat land spinners and trick lovers of all kinds.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

Like we say, the Sensor is a true twin. It’s got an identical nose and tail, with a symmetrical flex pattern to match, so it performs equally well riding switch. The sidecut is tight to help you get technical – even at lower speeds – and there’s a tight spread of short-ish lengths available, from 147 (for young guns and female park rats) to a 159 wide (for the sasquatches).

The profile combines camber in the middle of the board with rocker towards the tips. The Sensor also features SideKick scoops at the wide points, which they’ve borrowed from the 3D specialists at Bataleon. It’s a great compromise for freestyle riding that minimises edge catches if you land a little sloppy, but which still delivers edge control where you need it i.e. between your feet.

The rockered element comes in handy in deep snow, too, helping to keep the tips afloat when stomping a step-down or doing your best powder wheelie.

Construction and Materials

Park-focused boards can often scrimp on tech to keep the price down and because, well, they’re expected to take a beating. Not so here. The Sensor is competitively priced yet comes loaded with a fancy lightweight core (blending four different woods) and carbon fibre at the tips for guaranteed pop. With biax fibreglass in the layup, the overall flex still feels playful and easy to control when you’re setting up for a trick.

Likewise, the base is a step up from the standard extruded tech found on most jib sticks. It’s a 7000-grade ‘sintruded’ P-tex that’s tough as nails but still super quick thanks to the inclusion of carbon nanoparticles.

Roundup

The Sensor is a classic shape with some modern materials and a little 3D tech to spice things up. The mellow flex makes it fun to chuck around on any terrain, and with that camrock profile it won’t kick your ass if you make a mistake – exactly what you need when you’re building your trick bag. It’s one of Tim Humphrey’s go-to decks, too, so if your GoPro footage is anything less than spectacular then you’re all out of excuses.
