Who Is The Nidecker Funball For?

Silver surfers and rad dads are the obvious target for this neon tribute to the old days, but in all honesty any rider who enjoys going hella fast, spraying slush and slashing pow will dig its fresh directional lines.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

The Funball effortlessly bridges the gap between the old and the new. Of course it’s hard to ignore that bright pink graphic, but look closer and this isn’t some dusty relic that’s been pulled straight off the wall of a mountain bar – it’s a radical update on those early swallowtails, with a short and wide silhouette as hip as anything you might find from the likes of KORUA. Maximum surface area and agility is the goal, with extended rocker towards the nose and classic camber further back to keep it feeling floaty yet lively at all times. Nidecker describe the tail as a ‘fish’; in keeping with the 80s theme, we call it a PacMan. Either way, with the help of a 60mm set back stance it sinks easily in deep snow, making this the ideal whip to attack windlips or dive into tight tree lines.

Construction and Materials

Let’s be honest: anyone buying a board this pointy isn’t looking to fanny about on the bunny slopes. They want to go FAST. Nidecker have obliged by equipping the Funball with a race-grade N-9000 sintered base that will keep you gliding even on those long cat tracks back to the lift. On top of this sits their Master Core, a technical blend of poplar, beech, spruce and paulownia that’s lightweight yet super strong and responsive. Reaction times are accelerated even further with a triax weave topsheet to stiffen the board torsionally and ensure it can handle aggressive edge changes on and off the piste.

Roundup

If you dream of doing a method on a bright pink board, like a classic French postcard – but you still want to enjoy the best of modern board design – then this one’s for you. They say trends go in cycles. If so, the Funball is like a teenager who just realised his dad’s music collection is actually pretty cool. That’s right, son: Nevermind is amazing – and by the way guys like Régis Rolland fucking invented surf-style snowboarding.
