The model names are perhaps a little condescending, but there’s something in Nidecker’s women’s range for everyone – from the hard-charging Princess to the entry-level Elle. The Nidecker Angel is closer to the latter, and is a fine choice for anyone who’s progressed beyond the training-wheels stage.

“The Nidecker Angel is a fine choice for anyone who’s progressed beyond the training-wheels stage.”

The shape and profile are similar to those found on the higher-end Nidecker Divine, so the Angel has the same all-mountain chops in that regard. A combination of camber between the feet and rocker at each end allow you to feel a strong edge on firmer snow, and get a bit of a boost when either floating in powder or pressing the nose and tail in a butter.

It’s got a softer flex than its big sister, though, making it a mellower deck that’s ideal for cruising. Switch riding is no problem, and a layer of shock-absorbing material keeps your feet happy for longer whichever way you ride. The Nidecker Angel has also been built for strength, with beech stringers complementing the otherwise full poplar core.

It also has one of the lowest price-tags of any board we’ve seen this year, making the Nidecker Angel an ideal choice for the cash-strapped, as well as those wanting a fun resort board to add to their quiver.

Tester’s Verdict

“I took the Angel out early morning, when the snow was still hard and icy, and was pleasantly surprised with how well it dealt with the conditions. It’s not a board with which you have to concentrate too hard while riding – it felt really laid back whilst still being super responsive when you wanted it to be.

I couldn’t say it was my stand out board in any one particular field, although it was certainly one that I felt was a complete all rounder, and is definitely one to consider if you’re looking for an all-mountain board that won’t break the bank.”
