Never Summer | 2020 – 2021 Snowboard Product Preview

A first look at next season's snowboard gear

Never Summer pride themselves on designing, testing and producing their snowboards all on home turf. Their factory in Denver, CO, is located within a short commute to some of North America’s finest resorts. You’ll see just how loyal their following is within a hundred-mile radius – they seem to be the brand of choice for about one in five riders in Colorado. But their support is global, with park and backcountry riders alike swearing by thee durability and bombproof constructions of their boards. For the 2020/21 season, Never Summer has made some exciting tweaks, evolutions and additions to the line.

The Proto Synthesis is the latest incarnation of the brand’s best selling series. Taking on rider feedback, Never Summer has increased the camber zones underfoot (more than any other snowboard on the market, they claim) and livened up the core from its predecessor, making it one of the most versatile all-mountain twins in the lineup.

The new Proto Ultra, however, is a more aggressive beast altogether. Designed with team rider Chris Corning in mind, the Ultra features Never Summer’s new Shock Wave Rocker Camber Profile but has been jumped up with carbon additives in the base and core, dialing the flex and performance up to the top end of the scale.

The new Proto Slinger combines the Proto and Fun Slinger into an asymmetric, camber/rockered freestyle deck, designed with increased pop without loosing out on Never Summer’s hallmark quick turn initiation and forgiveness through the centre of the board.

There’s also a new women’s specific Proto Synthesis for next season, which adopts the same camber, shape and construction as the men’s deck for confident all-mountain charging.

Another hybrid of two previous models comes in the form of the Harpoon. By mixing the DNA of the InstaGator and Mavericks, snowboard shaper Tim Canaday has designed a new model built for churning up corduroy, spraying up powder, and everything in between.
