Gloves & Mitts

Neff Rover Gloves 2016-2017

From their early days as a fledgling headgear brand, Neff now has its fingers in several pies; sunglasses, watches and more apparel than you can shake a stick at. You might have spotted their wares on the likes of surfer Jordy Smith, skater Aaron “Jaws” Homoki and even Snoop Dogg. Meanwhile their snowboard gear – including beanies, neckwarmers, gloves and outerwear – is used by Kazuhiro Kokubo, Sage Kotsenburg and the Helgasons, to name just a few.

It’s Eiki Helgason’s signature design that adorns this pair of Neff Rover snowboard gloves. As even a cursory glance can tell you, it’s a lightweight, warm-weather option known commonly as a ‘pipe glove’. Don’t take these on your mid-winter pow mission – unlike other gloves in the 100, these won’t do you any good when it’s perishing out.

“These provide all the hand protection you need during sunny spring days, saving you from slush-burn when – either deliberately or accidentally – your hands drag in the snow”

Rather they provide all the hand protection you need during sunny spring days, saving you from slush-burn when – either deliberately or accidentally – your hands drag in the snow. Also, even in late season the temperature can drop a fair bit when the clouds come over, so it’s good to have at least a little protection from the chill.

Substantial they ain’t, but the Neff Rover is no kitchen marigold. The palm is made of synthetic leather, with a silicone coating that increases the waterproofing. It’s also super-grippy, so tweaking out those tricky grabs will be easier in a pair of these than just about anything else. A combination of urethane and water-repellant mesh ensures the rest of the glove is tough enough without trapping sweat.

Good luck finding any gear to match this colourway, but if you think colour-coordination is for squares anyway, reach for a pair of these. If they’re just not to your taste, however, there are more muted versions available.

Trade Secrets

Eiki Helgason – Team Rider, Neff

I decided to choose the Rover Gloves as my pro model because they’re extremely comfortable and work great for all kinds of weather conditions. The palms are super sticky so it’s easy to hold on to those grabs for as long as you want, and the flexibility makes them fit your hand perfectly.

The Rover gloves are my go-to gloves for every day of the season, so don’t be afraid to grab yourself a pair and go shredding – you will not regret it! For the graphic, I’ve matched them to my pro model Lobster snowboard and Switchback bindings.
